YUCK!

Well, everyone here in Indiana knew this wouldn't last, and it's coming to an end soon. For the past few days it has been absolutely awesome here weather wise, in the upper 60's to 70's and for Nov that is great. However, a winter storm is slowly and surely heading our way as I type this we are under a winter storm watch. At first the local weather guy said 1-3 inches heavy stuff going south. I thought okeh I can deal with that right? Tonight at 5:00 the same weather guy says pattern has changed 4-6 inches now I am starting to think oh shit! Then at 11 they are saying anywhere from 1-4 inches. I really wish they'd make up their mind and I am hoping it's more of the 1 inch variety. They are calling for it to come in sometime Friday with a band of ice leading the way oh joy. For those of you who want a white christmas, or just some snow I say get real! You don't know how great you have it not getting snow. I have to get up earlier then normal to clean off my car and start it, shovel the walk way, put down salt if it's slippery, and of course leave earlier because too many people have no clue how to drive on the stuff. It's a pain in the ass. The funny thing is it lasts forever too! It doesn't just appear at Christmas and then magically melt. The months of January and Feb. are long but become longer if we get significant snow. The dreary weather makes the day longer trust me and those months just lag on. So, think of me this week as the white crap hits us :( I HATE SNOW!!!

Does anyone watch One Tree Hill? Man was it ever good tonight, I was on the edge of my seat! They have been really hard on poor Hailey this season, I hope she and the baby live, and Lucas didn't see that coming. I should have since they finally got him and Peyton together D'oh! I can't believe this season of the Amazing Race is almost over, that's so depressing. It's been really good this season and my favorite team is still alive. I like James and Tyler the model/recovering addict guys, but I wouldn't be disappointed if the Beauty Queens won either I like how they run the race. They are hardcore, do well at challenges, and ruthless. The only team I don't like that is remaining is the Moms from Alabama, I hope they get eliminated next. They are annoying, just like those hicks from Kentucky. The Cho(Sp?) brothers were cool, but they were wayyyyy too nice to win a show like this, but I liked them. Grey's was good this past Thurs, I can't believe he shut the door in Christina's face, wow!

I tried to wait til the last part of this post to talk sports, so those of you who don't like sports can stop reading now. What a game tonight by my Boilermakers, I am pissed I didn't go! We were playing #25 Virginia in the Big Ten/ACC challenge, and it was tied at 59 with 20 secs to go and we had the ball. Our Point Guard takes it with 7 secs and drives throws up a tear dropper, and swish. I went NUTS!! This is a huge win for us, especially considering we went 9-19 last year, and we are now 5-1 with wins over teams from the Big 12, Big East, and now ACC. Still tons of areas to improve, especially Free Throws, but I like how this team is playing. GO BOILERS! As for football who do you all think should be in the title game?? We know Ohio State is going, but who should their opponent be? It looks like Southern Cal, although it should be Michigan. I know what Cheryl said in that she saw that already and wanted to see what a SEC school would do, and I will tell you they would get KILLED. No disrespect but the Florida and Arkansas teams I have seen don't stack up with UM, OSU, or USC. We already saw the title game, and what a game it was. I firmly believe UM deserves the rematch it's too bad they won't get it. I certainly hope the Rose Bowl doesn't bite and take Notre Dame, man a rematch of ND/UM that will be UGLY Part 2! I am highly opposed to a playoff system, I love the bowls :) I have a special preview coming up for the bowl games, and all you people who were guest pickers will be apart of it. I will be emailing you as soon as all the match ups are set, so be ready!

Alright well everyone have a great rest of the week, and it's almost the weekend WOOHOO!
Think of me buried in snow, and I will be putting a curse on TGP and Hokey Pokey!!!

Did you know Fearless and Steph are members of the Rascal Flatts Fan Club?

Ugh! Why is going back to work the Monday after a holiday so hard? The only good news is Christmas break will be coming soon woohoo!! Did everyone have a nice turkey day? I have repeated over and over that I don't like Thanksgiving, and I still don't. We had thanksgiving at my parents house, and a ton of people came over. The only good thing was it was super nice outside in the 60's, so my sister, brother in law, the twins, and I walked to the elementary school. There we played on the playground it was fun. Unlike Thanksgiving I LOVE christmas I can't wait for it to get here, it's the only time I am okeh with having snow too. Although I haven't started my shopping yet!!

I have been really tired lately, I am definitely not getting enough sleep. I find myself wearing down during the day about 1:30 UGH! I think that will be one of my new year's resolutions this year, to get more sleep. That and to swear less, but I do that one every year, and it never seems to happen. Last year I made the resolution to get back to working out full steam, and I think I got to 50% so maybe this year I will get to 100 haha. Do any of you make resolutions?

I booked my trip to Florida for the Purdue bowl game HELL YA! I will be gone the 26th -- 31st so don't expect to hear from me during that period. We booked a flight coming home at 5am! I was like WHAT?! I am not sure I will even go to bed the night before. It will be nice to get home at a decent time though. We still don't know who we'll be playing, have to wait for the ACC title game to play out. Could be any of these teams, Maryland, Boston College, Clemson or Virgina Tech. For those of you who don't know we lost to Hawaii Saturday, but in a thrilling game 42-35. What an offensive showing by both teams. The no call on the motion penalty killed us when they went for 2. I truly don't believe the best team won, had we not been sleep walking thru the first half we win. It was a good game and all, but I side with Tiller we shouldn't have played that game. I am excited about going to Florida though! I hope it's snowing and miserably cold here when we leave, and beautiful and warm in Florida. We will be hitting Disney World again to make it my 17 th trip there, and Universal Studios. There is so much more to do in Florida then in San Antonio. Speaking of football, Gary and Cheryl did I see Bama fired their coach?!?! CRAZY! You guys happy or sad??

Well, hope everyone had a good and safe holiday. Big week here for Purdue, hosting Virginia in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, and the women travel to UCONN for a nationally televised game. GO BOILERS! By the way really quickly here, sorry Wendy! I got tooo busy over the holiday, are you going to be in town for Christmas??

Last regular season preview

Hi everyone
Hope you are all recovering from your turkey hangovers. I am thankful this stupid holiday is over for another year. I first off want to apologize I have been super busy and won't have time to get around to any of your blogs until Sunday evening, or Monday, but I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!

Well, we have come to the last regular season game of the year and Purdue is in beautiful Hawaii to take on the Rainbow Warriors(do they still have the Rainbow?). This is not going to be an easy game, as Hawaii has one of the, if not the best, offense in the country. It will be another tough test for our young improving defense. Last time out we defeated our arch rival Indiana 28-19. It was awesome because we played absolutely horrible, IU played absolutely amazing and we still won HAHA in your face you dumbass Hoosiers. Not only did we retain the bucket, but we kept them out of a bowl. How sweet it is! Unfortunately we still have one more game to play in Hawaii. Since defeating the lowly Hoosiers we have also been invited to the Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando Florida, and I have already booked my trip YAY!! So, not much on the line for this game, but a chance to beat a top 25 team I guess.

It's funny Joe Tiller has publicly stated numerous times now he has never wanted to play this game. He said he wanted this game cancelled, and talked about how we lose money playing this game. He went on to say other big ten coaches who have played there warned him about bad officiating, and how the big ten should stop going over there. Will that happen who knows. I only hope this negative attitude doesn't rub off on the Boilers. I don't see us winning this game for many reasons, however we do play better away from Ross Ade. This is just a chance to get to 9 wins, and beat a team who has yet to play anyone, no offense gary and cheryl. Alright onto the prediction.

I am only doing the Purdue game this week as I said before busy week and tons of teams have already played. That being said, if you were a guest picker expect an email from me in the coming days.

Purdue vs Hawaii- This is not a fun game, and could get ugly either way. They are a high octane offense, but don't seem to have much defense. If our offense which has played better away from Ross Ade can click we have a shot. We have way too many hurdles to overcome in this one, a long flight, tons of distractions, already have the bowl bid. That being said somehow, someway Tiller fires them up enough to get victory #9.

PURDUE 63 hawaii 62
EDIT FINAL SCORE HAWAII 42 purdue 35*WHAT A GAME!! Even in a loss this game was amazing to watch.

Hail Hail to old Purdue all Hail to our old gold and black Hail Hail to old Purdue our friendship may she never lack Ever grateful ever true, thus we raise our song anew FIRE UP Of the days we've spent with you all Hail our old Purdue GO BOILERS! BTFU

FLORIDA OR BUST!

Well, found out today Purdue has accepted a bid to play in the Champs Sports Bowl Dec 29th at 8pm in Orlando, Florida. I for one am on cloud 9! I would much rather go to Florida for many reasons, then San Antonio. Yours truly has already booked his trip and I can't wait! Last year sucked being home during bowl season so this will be awesome. Now, just hoping Florida doesn't have a cold december haha! Last time I was there in Dec was for the Capital One Bowl and the weather was AWESOME. Our opponent will be a team from the ACC and will be named after their title game. Could be one of these four, Maryland, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, or Clemson. Can't wait, BTFU!

Also, with family obligations and what not I will not be around much tomorrow. So, I wanted to be sure and wish everyone a HAPPY THANKSGIVING!! As my good pal Wendy always says, Gobble til ya Wobble! I will be spending turkey day with my parents, sister, bro in law, nephews, grandma, Aunt and Uncle plus their two kids, and my aunt from Georgia. I hate this holiday, and see no point in celebrating it, but I have no choice so I will. At least I get some good food out of it.

Have a great thanksgiving, and remember to BOILER UP!

BTW my kidney turns 17 today!! :) haha.

Weekend Wrap

Well another funfilled Purdue sports weekend for yours truly. Before I do anything else, another big thank you to Mr Shife for being the guest picker this week. The final stats were
Phats- 8 woohoo's and 4 D'ohs
Shife- 9 woohoo's and 3 D'ohs SHIFE WINS! Thanks again Mr Shife.

Well, another bucket game is in the books and another P will be added to the bucket. It was an ugly game with a capital U, but a win is a win. In the first half alone there were 8 total turnovers 4 by each time. Maybe the oddest play I have seen all year happened as well. Our running back fighting for some extra yards fumbles, the IU guy picks it up is running close to taking it in gets to the 20 and that is where it gets weird. Our WR never gave up on the play punches the ball out of the guys arms it goes thru the endzone touchback Purdue. Crazy! We played one of our worst games since August, IU played the game of their life and we still won by 9, 28-19. The best part about this win, we keep them home for the holidays HAHA LOVE IT! Now it looks like we are headed to the Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando, since Iowa lost. BTFU!

The Friday night before the bucket game we had a mens/womens basketball doubleheader in Mackey Arena. The #12 ranked women opened the night by absolutely drubbing #23 Washington(sorry egan) 88-64. Then the men took the floor and took on Western Carolina, and it was no contest. It's nice for the men to get some easy wins since they are playing in the Maui Invite this week. Purdue's women returned to action tonight playing #16 Baylor in the finals of the WNIT and impressively defeated the Bears 69-55. Baylor has only lost 2 times in Non Conference play under Kim Mulky so a great win! Also did I mention that IU lost to Butler in mens basketball? HAHAHAHA!!!

So, is everyone ready for Thanksgiving? My relatives got into town Sat from Georgia, so today I spent the day with them. We took the grandchildren picture, took about 20 pics it seemed like. Long day! I don't like Thanksgiving, so I hope this week goes fast. I love Christmas though.

That's all I got for you have a great week! The song is little big town, "bring it on home" one of my favorite songs at the moment. I thought about putting up www.memory for Fearless, because that is his favorite song, but maybe another time ;)

Phats
By the way I want an Ohio State/Michigan rematch for the title game!!!

GO PURDUE SCREW IU!!! BTFU *EDITED

Hello bloggers!
Ahh the next to last Friday football preview, don't be sad I enjoy college basketball too haha! Well, like I said in the last post it's rivalry week that means we play those hated pussy's from down south that's right the indiana hoosiers. I hate them, I would rather eat pond scum then lose to them at anything. If we lose this game which better not happen, don't expect me to be social on the blog. On to the preview.

Last time out Purdue steamrolled Illinois, although it was close for awhile. I was very nervous when they took a 23-14 lead, but all was good when we recovered 4 straight fumbles and started to roll to a 42-31 win. In doing so we got our 7th win and became bowl eligible for the 9th time in Tiller's 10 years at Purdue. This is a big game tomorrow not only because it's a rivalry but because IU can become bowl eligible if they upset us. Since Tiller has arrived at Purdue the Old Oaken Bucket, which is what we play for, has pretty much never left West Lafayette. The one time it did was when IU beat us in a downpour on a bad call when I swear we got across the goal line. The Boilers have been even more impressive against our rivals at home, pretty much manhandling them. Not sure if that will happen, but I feel good about this one. Onto the predictions.

My guest picker this week is the very funny, Mr Shife. His predictions were pretty funny, and I think you will enjoy them I know I did. So, onto the predictions.

Big game of the week
Ohio State vs Michigan- Was there any doubt that this would be the big game. It might be the game of the century. #1 vs #2 the winner goes to the national title game, the loser likely to the rose bowl. Here is what i'd like to see happen, a really close like 1 point game and the loser getting a second shot in the title game, not sure if that will happen or not. Both have had their letdown game so this should be a GREAT game. It will be close, but I like OSU's defense a little better, I am picking Bucky
Phats- OHIO STATE 28 michigan 24
Mr Shife- #1 vs #2 and since I have to go #1 right now as I write this I am picking Ohio state to win OHIO STATE 35 michigan 24
EDIT FINAL SCORE OHIO STATE 42 michigan 39(what a game!)
Phats- WOOHOO
Shife- WOOHOO

Philadelphia vs Tennessee- For Shannon. Hmm the eagles look to be back on track, and I am not convinced that the Titans are that great. I will go with Shannon's eagles
Phats- PHILADELPHIA 31 tennessee 21
Mr Shife- The Titans should lose every week based on the fact that they have hideous uniforms. What exactly is their helmet logo? I have seen my fat basset drop more creative stuff out of his butt. I am going with the eagles PHILADELPHIA 42 tennessee 17
EDIT FINAL SCORE TENNESSEE 31 philadelphia 13
Phats- D'oh
Shife- D'oh

UAB vs Southern Mississippi- For Kayla. Well traditionally Southern Miss is a pretty strong program not sure if that is the case this year. UAB has really struggled down the stretch. I would love to pick the Blazers for my pal Kayla, but I just can't sorry Kayla.
Phats- SOUTHERN MISS 35 uab 21
Mr Shife- My knowledge of these two teams ranks right up there with my grasp on astrophysics. If this was a basketball game i'd pick UAB, so I am picking Southern Miss since this is a football game. SOUTHERN MISS 35 uab 28
EDIT FINAL SCORE SOUTHERN MISS 25 uab 20
Phats- WOOHOO
Shife- WOOHOO

Eastern Michigan vs Kent State- For Design Goddess. Ahh the golden flashes have had a rough couple of weeks, and I see them getting it back on track this week. They will not only win this game they will roll! Golden Flashes all over EMU
Phats- KENT STATE 42 eastern michigan 7
Mr Shife- Directional Michigan against the Golden Flashes. Come on, how cool is that nickname? So, the nickname factor plus the fact I think Design Goddess is quite the cool lady, Kent State wins. KENT STATE 42 eastern michigan 14
EDIT FINAL SCORE KENT STATE 14 eastern michigan 6
Phats- WOOHOO
Shife- WOOHOO

Duke vs Georgia Tech- For David. Well Tech has already clinched their division in the ACC, so this game is meaningless. I don't see a Duke upset her at all, Tech Rolls and my relatives all tech fans are happy.
Phats- GEORGIA TECH 55 duke 3
Mr Shife- I will try to be completely objective on this one. Oh wait, I can't because as Cartman would say, "Duke can suck my balls." I hate Duke with a passion, and get ready Cameron Crazies because the tar heels are going to kick your butt again this year in hoops. But I digress, this is about football. Georgia Tech wins this one easily. GEORGIA TECH 156 duke 0
EDIT FINAL SCORE GEORGIA TECH 49 duke 21
Phats- WOOHOO
Shife- WOOHOO

Washington vs Washington State- For Egan. Ahh the battle for the Apple Cup. I remember watching this game one year played in a snowstorm, and a lot of the teams this game means something. Not this year. UDub has been on a downward spiral, and the loss to the drunk tree team finished them. Cougars roll.
Phats- WASHINGTON STATE 44 washington 14
Mr Shife- Wazzu had a bye last week and Washington lost to Stanford. So, what does that mean? The apple cup will go to the Cougs this year WASHINGTON STATE 56 washington 10
EDIT FINAL SCORE WASHINGTON 35 washington state 32
Phats- D'oh
Shife- D'oh

Oklahoma vs Baylor- For Mylife- This one is a snoozer, and the Sooners will have absolutely no problems. BOOMER SOONER!
Phats- OKLAHOMA 60 baylor 14
Mr Shife- This one is simple, Baylor sucks. OKLAHOMA 35 baylor 7
EDIT FINAL SCORE OKLAHOMA 36 baylor 10
Phats- WOOHOO
Shife- WOOHOO(that was close shife!)

Oklahoma State vs Texas Tech- For Jef and Fuzz. Hmm Cowpokes vs Red Raiders, interesting mascot battle. My money is on the red raider. Texas Tech will slowly but surely pull away from the cowboys to take this one.
Phats- TEXAS TECH 42 oklahoma state 28
Mr Shife- Don't know much about these teams either. This gets the coin flip treatment, heads it's the cowboys, tails it's the red raiders. And there's the flip and it looks like my quarter just rolled onto the street, and down a sewage drain. CRAP! Oh hell I am picking TEXAS TECH 42 oklahoma state 38
EDIT FINAL SCORE TEXAS TECH 30 oklahoma state 24
Phats- WOOHOO
Shife- WOOHOO

California vs Southern Cal- For Fearless- Ahh the pac 10 AKA the conference only the left coast cares about. This is a big game, and not for 1 vs 2 would be the game of the week. USC had no problems with the ducks last week, but Cal is better then Oregon this will be a tough test, and USC can't afford to slip sitting at #3 in the BCS. Trojans will slowly but surely dominate this game, and send the bears into hibernation.
Phats- USC 41 california 31
Mr Shife- Big game for both schools but, I think USC wins this one. The Bears had a major letdown against Arizona and the Trojans are back on track after getting thumped by Oregon State a few weeks ago. I am picking the fighting prophylactics. USC 38 cal 20
EDIT FINAL SCORE USC 23 california 9
Phats- WOOHOO
Shife- WOOHOO

Alabama vs Auburn- For Cherly and Gary and Pissy and LeeAnn. Ahh yes it's iron bowl time! Does the winning team iron the losing teams uniforms? I called this one early, that Bama would upset the Tigers. However, coming off a stunning loss to UGA might be the worst thing that could happen for Bama, as Auburn will be fired up even more. This is a big rivalry and you can throw the records out the window. Bama stuns Auburn getting bragging rights for this year ROLL TIDE!
Phats- ALABAMA 42 auburn 35 2 OT's
Mr Shife- Isn't this called the Iron Bowl or something? Why? I have no idea, and I can't also think of one good reason why Auburn would lose this game. Roll Tide..... I don't think so AUBURN 31 alabama 21
EDIT FINAL SCORE AUBURN 22 alabama 15
Phats- D'oh
Shife- WOOHOO

Idaho vs Fresno State- For Shife. Ahh my guest pickers Alma Mater. Idaho has had a successful season by its standards, and Fresno used to be a tough team to beat in the Wacky WAC. This year Fresno has taken it's lumps, and the Vandals will give them one more Saturday. GO IDAHO!
Phats- IDAHO 35 fresno state 20
Mr Shife- This one is also simple: Idaho sucks, but wait so does Fresno State. Very interesting. Can my beloved Vandals win this game? Yes. Do I think they are going to win this game? Why not. IDAHO 24 fresno state 17 GO VANDALS!
EDIT FINAL SCORE FRESNO STATE 34 idaho 0
Phats- D'oh
Shife- D'oh

Purdue vs Indiana- Well, another big time rivalry, and like I said before you can throw the records out. IU is actually playing for something, they need a win to become bowl eligible. I see it going down 2 different ways. One a close game, and two a Purdue blow out. I don't see IU winning this game, they have struggled in Ross Ade, and this IU team is not good no matter what anyone says. If we play our game we will waltz to victory, and get to play the grinch that steal christmas. If we play average we'll win in a close one. Last time we played them at Ross Ade we put 60 on them, a bad Minnesota team put 64 on them this year, they have absolutely no secondary to speak of that will be the difference Boilers get the offense rolling and blow out the LOSERS, i mean hoosiers. The Bucket stays where it belongs in West Lafayette!

Mr Shife- According to Phats, somebody gets a bucket if they win this game. I am not sure what is in the bucket so maybe it's worth winning. You can also use a good bucket right? Anyway, I am pretty sure if I don't BTFU on this pick I will break the heart of our dear friend Phats. So, Purdue it is PURDUE 45 indiana 28

Welcome to Rivarly Week kids.

This is what we are playing for this weekend, the Old Oaken Bucket. This traveling trophy goes to the winner of the Purdue/iu game. Joe Tiller has been at Purdue for 10 years now(with this being his 10th season) and the bucket has only left West Lafayette once. That game was a fluke too, it was a monsoon and we got a horrible no call on 4th and goal from the one. I absolutely 100% HATE iu, I like nothing about them, I will never root for them, and even if it means we gain something. Kristen and I have long said if we have kids and they turn out to either like IU or want to go to IU, we will put them up for adoption. For the last 9 years this game has meant really 2 things. One an end to the season for the loser hoosiers, and 2 us solidifying our bowl position. This year we will be trying to do number two, but IU has 5 wins and a win over us makes them bowl eligible. Not going to happen sorry, but will send you a nice post card from our bowl game. Have I mentioned I HATE iu.

I am starting to get upset over the lack of respect this Purdue squad is getting. Sure we have struggled, but we're a young team! What I like about this team is we have improved every week except the Iowa game. We played 3rd place Wisky close it was 10-3 starting the 4th, and 4th place PSU to a 12-0 loss. Had our offense showed up we might have won both. We did what we were suppose to do, and beat the teams we were suppose to. Yet people continue to pick against us when playing inferior teams IE Illinois. I imagine some of the same for Saturday's game, although we're at least a favorite with the oddsmakers this week. So to you people I say keep picking against my Boilers because it's working! It is true what they say though you can throw the records out the window when you play your rival. Usually you will get their best game, and you better bring yours. I will save my prediction for Friday's preview, and I have a great guest picker this week, and to all of you who did guest picks a big THANKS!! You guys were great. That's the only sad part of rivalry week, football season is almost over :(

So, enjoy the Apple cup, the iron bowl, the bucket battle this weekend, and think of me sitting at Ross Ade freezing my ass off watching my Boilers stomp those munchkins from the south!! By the way incase you didn't know, the biggest rivalry game possibly of the century will take place in Columbus when #1 Ohio State plays #2 Michigan. WOW! It's great to see the spotlight on the Big Ten, the best conference, again! We have won more BCS games then any other conference. This is going to be a great game and you will have to feel for the loser. Any chance this might be the big game of the week? HAHA!

Sorry, it's another sports post but this is a fun week, and one more thing. Don't let small children read this last part profanity to follow.

GO PURDUE FUCK IU!

WE'RE GOING BOWLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, another great weekend for Phats! For those of you who don't know my Boilermakers won Saturday 42-31 over Illinois, making them 7-4. This assures a winning season and a bowl game WOOHOO!! Which means I will be traveling somewhere nice and warm over the holidays. It seems it will be one of two destinations, Florida or Texas. Now, no offense to my friends in Texas but I am hoping Florida. We have a shot at 3 bowls, the Outback Bowl, the Champs Sports Bowl, and the Alamo Bowl. Outback is played in Tampa, and is probably a long shot, but with some help(a PSU loss) you never know. The other two, Champs sports and Alamo it's really up in the air We will get one and Iowa will get one. Iowa does travel well, but will likely have a worse record then Purdue, but once 2 teams from one conference go to a BCS game you throw that out the window. Iowa did beat us so you really can't complain if they get chosen ahead of us. I am hoping Champs Sports, but it will probably be Alamo, but after missing out last year I don't really care where it is just happy to go! Now we turn our attention to rivalry week, and the Bucket game. Hopefully we clobber those pansy's down south. I would like to thank Jef again for being the guest picker. If you didn't read the update from the last entry he won the final total was
Phats 7 WOOHOO's and 5 D'ohs
Jef 8 WOOHOO's and 4 D'ohs!
Thanks again Jef!

I went to the Purdue womens basketball game tonight to watch the ladies play in the 2nd round of the WNIT. The #11 ranked Boilers killed Hartford tonight 85-51. All 5 starters were in double figures, led by Lindsey Wysdom-Hylton's 18 pt 14 rebound performance. Although it was the performance by Freshman point guard FaKhara Malone that turned heads. 15 pts, and 7 steals which tied a Purdue Freshman record. This team is going to be good, and fun to watch. The men tip off their season tomorrow, vs Northern Colorado. BOILER UP!

Can you believe Thanksgiving is like a week away? So what are all of you doing for the holiday? I will be having dinner with my whole damn family, should be tons of fun. Incase you can't read it that was sarcasm. My relatives get into town from Atlanta, Georgia on Saturday. Since this will be the first chance we have had in a long time to have all the grandkids together we're taking a picture. There will be 6 of us, and it won't be fun. The youngest is like 3rd grade I think? I believe it's a Christmas gift for my grandma, and she has been asking for this for a long time, and we haven't been successful so at least she'll like it.

Well, that is all I have for you. Have a great week!

Oh yeah, it's suppose to snow here Thurs YUCK!

GO BOILERS!!

Well, here we are at another Purdue preview, this week has flown by probably because work has kept me busy. We have had some crap going on at the tennis center and that is why I haven't been around as much. Tomorrow the mighty Boilers will take on the Illinois Fighting Illini, at Illinois. The game kicks off at noon, and yours truly will be there with friends. Last time out the Boilers defeated the multiple personality team of Michigan State 17-15 on a field goal with 4:00 mins to play. A great win considering the much criticized defense had to make 2 stops to get this win, they did and the Boilers are 1 win away from sending Phats somewhere warm for the holidays. A quick shout out to the Purdue womens basketball team, opening their season tonight in the Pre-Season WNIT defeating Belmont 67-43. Onto the Fightin' Illini!

Although Illinois goes into this game with a 2-8 record, they are much better then that. They have tested almost everyone they have played including a 17-10 loss last week against #1 Ohio State. They are very dangerous on both sides of the ball, and it all starts with their QB Juice Williams, if he gets loose(juice on the loose) it will be a long day. The weather is not looking so hot, it doesn't appear its going to be too cold, but rain is in the forecast. Our passing attack has never been great in the rain. One thing I like about this game is we still need one more win to become bowl eligible, I like that they have that motivation, and 3 chances to get it. However, all of Boilermaker country will feel much better if we get it tomorrow.

This weeks guest picker is none other then Mr Red Raider himself, the one, the only, Jef. I am not sure if a Texas Longhorn stole his other F or what? I will say this about Jef, he had me laughing at his predictions like nobody else. So on we go. Shife's Vandals are off this week.

Big Game of the Week
USC vs Oregon- A huge showdown in the Pac 10 AKA the conference nobody cares about. This is a big game, and a very winnable game for the mighty ducks. USC has really struggled this year, and won't put up big numbers until they take on the very much overrated Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Ducks pull out a thriller

Philadelphia vs Washington- For Shannon and Ben. Well, we will see if the bye week helps Philly get back on track. Washington really hasn't impressed anyone, including me this year, and the eagles ought to make Shannon a happy girl Sunday. Eagles give shannon a great Birthday gift an easy win for a change.

Any shot IU had went out the window when BSU played UM tight last week. UM sends message we're back and KILLS IU, leaving my Boilers to be the big bully on the block and denying them a bowl berth. Washington vs Stanford- For Egan- This could have easily been the pillow fight of the week, or the yawner. Should be a snoozefest, at least the Stanford band kicks some ass to wake up the fans. Stanford is bad, UW needs a win. A great formula Washington cuts down the tree mascot. Watch out hopefully the tree isn't under the influence!

Purdue vs Illinois- Well this is another big game for us, and I would like to see us get that 7th win here so we don't go into the bucket game needing a win. It will be closer then some might think, but we're playing much better on the road this year then at home. A good Purdue crowd will travel for this one, and watch the Boilers young improving defense get the big stops again. I think this game will be like the last one we played there 2 yrs ago, close but never in doubt. Purdue wins!! Hopefully sending me to Florida or San Antonio in December.

The best movie ever!!

You can probably guess what this post is going to be about just by reading the title. I am going to post about my favorite movie of all time, and it just so happens to be the best sports movie ever made. Of course I am talking about the movie Hoosiers.

"Welcome to Indiana basketball"
This movie has been playing alot lately on AMC, and I have watched it everytime, I never get tired of it. For those of you who have never seen this movie, it's a true story about a small high school in Indiana that takes home the big crown. In the movie it follows the Hickory Huskers and coach Norman Dale, all the way to state as they battle mighty South Bend Central team that is twice their size. In the real life scenerio it's the tiny school of Milan who defeats the Muncie Central Bearcats at Hinkle Fieldhouse 32-30 on a last second shot by Bobby Plump. This movie literally gives me goosebumps each and every time I watch it, just hearing the music does it for me.

Indiana has always and will always take their high school sports very seriously, but high school basketball in Indiana is KING. There is literally nothing like it, Texas High School football forget about it, Hoover HS not even close. Indiana still holds the national attendance record for filling the then Hoosier Dome to capacity for the state championship game featuring Concord vs Bedford North Lawerence. I think part of the reason that this movie is so special to me, and most people who live in Indiana is that we have all lived this for the most part. We have seen our team win at the last second, lose at the last second, and some of us have experienced our team winning the biggest thrill the state championship. We have seen communities large and small rally behind their teams, filling gyms all across the state. The gyms in Indiana too are HUGE, including the worlds largest fieldhouse in New Castle, where Steve Alford played. This movie always comes up in a debate over class basketball. Up until 1998 the state of Indiana did a one class basketball tournament, but small school AD's banned together and got the IHSAA to vote for class basketball(which SUCKS btw). Back in the day though little Milan got to experience the high of all highs, the ultimate David vs Goliath as they took down the giant. If you love an underdog you'll love this movie.

So, for those that haven't seen this movie you really need to check it out. It has it all, drama, a love interest, comedy, and a thrilling ending. It stars Gene Hackman, Barbara Hershey, and Dennis Hopper among others. A sidenote, a couple young men from this area were selected to be extras, one being from Greentown(eastern). He steals the ball and hits a lay up in the first game, and his name is Byron Cardwell! You also get to see historical hinkle fieldhouse where the state championship was played at the time. It has since evloved to Market Square Arena, to the RCA Dome, to where it is played today Conseco Fieldhouse. . It is true that almost every kid has a basketball goal at their house and dream of doing what "Jimmy Chitwood" AKA Bobby Plump did. That is a great part of the movie but my favorite part is when Ollie hits the two free throws and they win the regional, I really get goosebumps there! "one more, one more ollie and we're going all the way!" This movie is a definitely a classic, and if you haven't I think you should totally go rent it.

So, what is your favorite movie?

CMA's tonight. Fearless said if I didn't post something about this he'd yell at me. Did anyone watch the CMA's tonight? Here are my observations, i'll keep it short. How incredibly good did Carrie Underwood look tonight, nabbing the Horizon and Female vocalist of the year awards. Did anyone catch who her date was, Anthony Federov(however you spell it) from American Idol, interesting! I love the new Rascal Flatts song My Wish and was glad to see them perform it. The wreckers were freaking awesome, and I wish they would have won for duo. How hot was Sara Evans too, and I thought she sounded great, I love that song she performed. Also the biggest award of the night entertainer of the year, what a crock, Kenny Chesney!? Come on. I was hoping for any of them but him. I really wanted Brad Paisley or Rascal Flatts to win that oh well.

Alright have a great Election Tuesday, will be posting again Friday. Kayla keep reminding me that the Blazers play Friday!

6 Down 1 To go, Weekend Wrap Up

Hello everyone,
Hope you all had a great weekend, I sure as hell did. I had a sports weekend, as usual. On Friday the Purdue men opened exhibition season in basketball thumping the fighting sioux of North Dakota State, 92-60. The storyline though really had not much to do with the game moreso the refs calling it. Both teams were in the bonus before the first media timeout, which is not something that usually happens. Purdue was led by Carl Landry's 28 pts in 17 mins, this is a good sign seeing as how he redshirted last year coming off an ACL tear. It was a nice way to start a new season, with a win, everyone healthy, and the freshmen looking good. I see at least an NIT berth, and an outside shot at the NCAA Tournament. High expectations for a team who has been in the basement of the big ten the last 2 yrs.

Saturday, was an eventful day. My sister and her husband brought her three kids over to trick or treat, wearing their costumes. They chose a Toy Story theme, Tate was Buzz, Trey was Woody, and Caden was bullseye very cute. I gave them some candy, and kindly asked them to leave when the Purdue game was getting ready to start haha. The Boilers played MSU in a MUST WIN game for Purdue. For those of you who didn't already read the last post, we won!!! 17-15 in a weird game all around. We missed 2 field goals, and had 2 touchdowns called back one on offensive pass intereference what a bunk call that was too. It was another good Purdue/MSU battle as it came down to the end. After MSU scored to take a 15-14 lead they went for 2 and missed. Purdue drove all the way down the field and Kory Sheets going into the endzone fumbled out of the back of it, for a touchback. I will admit I thought we were done then and there. However, the defense who has just improved every game came up with a big interception on the MSU 47. We drive all the way down to the 1 yard line have 4th and goal, and Tiller calls timeout. He brings in a new kicker!! Benching the kid that missed the two earlier in the game. It is a chip shot, at 18 yards, but the angle wasn't the friendliest. This kid hasn't kicked a field goal since HS, so a little nervous I was. He kicked it right thru no hesitation right thru the uprights with 4:00 to go. Defense needed one last stand, and got it! On 4th and 8 our defense back knocked down a pass, and MSU with only 1 timeout that sealed it with 1:00 to go. BIG BIG BIG win. Brings us to 6-4, and needing to win just 1 of our last 3 games to qualify for a bowl, and send Phats somewhere warm for the holidays. Our last three games are @ Illinois, vs IU, and @ Hawaii. BOILER UP!

Today, I just got back from Mackey Arena watching the Purdue womens basketball team play their final exhibition game today against the Hoosier Lady Stars. The #13 ranked Boilers had no problems in this one, led by Katie Gearlds 20, winning 84-53. Expecting big things from the Ladies this season, with three very talented starters back. Face a tough schedule, but should be just fine, and a big ten and national contender. A fresh look this year for the Boiler women as Sharon Versyp returns to coach her Alma Mater, after Kristy Curry bolted for Texas Tech. I would love to play the red raiders and DRILL THEM!

Well, that was how I, Phats spent my weekend! What did you guys do, anything fun? I promise there will be a non sports post this week. Have a good one!

BOILER UP!

B-O-I-L-E-R-S Gooooooooo B-O-I-L-E-R-S!

Welcome to the Friday Preview for tomorrow's Purdue game, this is the World Famous Purdue Golden Girl, with the Boilermaker Special. Before getting into this weeks match ups, predictions, and breaking down the game I would like to make a short plea. Hi God, it's me Phats. Yes, I know I swear too much sorry, anyway if you could do you think you could help my Boilers win this Saturday? We are in desperate need of a victory and I am hoping you can help. We are on a skid and one that needs to stop, so alittle assistance would help. I know us here on Earth shouldn't be asking such favors of you, but like I said we're desperate! I know you're busy but anything you can do on Saturday would be appreciated. If for some reason we get killed I will then know you're an IU fan. Thanks God, and I will work on that swearing issue, Phats :) Alright on with the post.

So, my Boilers are coming off a 12-0 loss to Penn State that was incredibly frustrating. You see it was nothing PSU did to beat us, so much what we did to lose. Our offense had 2 bad turnovers in the redzone, missed a field goal, and chose not to go for it again on a 4th and short. It was a frustrating day to say the least. Now, I hate losing as much as the next guy but I find it comical that the Purdue fans are ready to Lynch Coach Tiller, Curtis Painter, Our assistant coaches, the whole team. Come on people we lose to the 3rd and 4th place teams in the Big Ten, in games that were very competitive. I am not old, but I am old enough to remember the dark days of Purdue football when all we wanted was at least 1 conference win, and would count down the days til basketball season. I love Coach Tiller he has turned us around, filled up Ross Ade, and continues to have us playing in late Dec, and sometimes Jan 1st. So, you Boiler Bashers I ask you do you want to go back to the Colleto and Akers eras?? Not me!

Tomorrow at 3:30 we take on the Michigan State Spartans up in East Lansing. The big news coming out of MSU was that John L. Smith their coach will no longer be the coach at the conclusion of the season. MSU is a tricky team you never know what team will show up, the incredibly talented one that had Notre Dame on the ropes, or the team that let Northwestern score 38 points on them, I am hoping for the second option. If we get ahead early I like our chances, if it's a shootout not sure what will happen, but here's hoping for a Boiler win.

Onto the picks! The guest picker this week is the one and only Stephanie! She said to let everyone know and I am quoting her here, "I have no effin' clue what I am doing, I am picking the teams by what state they are in" Should be interesting right? A quick disclaimer that the views of Miss Steph are not those expressed by the owner of this blog. Alright on with the predictions. By the way Shannon's Eagles are off this Sunday, and Kayla's Blazers have already played. By the way steph is only picking the winners, not the score.

Big Game of the Week
LSU vs Tennessee. The big game was actually Thurs. night Louisville vs West Virginia and the Cardinals took care of business, but this is a pretty big game as well.
