I blame it on Gary

Well, the good news is nobody cared about our game yesterday especially after an embarrassing loss. With all the upsets, and great match-ups it was an exciting day of college football, with the biggest winner being Alabama, holy cow what a display. Hopefully for Gary and Cheryl they can keep it up! Great game guys :)

Results from Travis and I's attempts to pick these games were a little bit better for me.

Observations
Alabama looked good in the first half, and looked like they lost focus in the second which usually happens when you're up that big. I hate to admit this, but I found myself rooting for Georgia in the second half when it looked like the Dawgs were going to comeback, I love those kind of stories. I will say this about Bama, I have no idea how but they get some of the best calls in the world, I wish my Boilers got half the calls they get! I think a couple of those roughing calls were cheap at best, and on Georgia's homefield! Good for you if you can get the calls more power to ya. This is all Alabama Nation needs though to get bigger heads than they already have, they were voted one of the most arrogant fan bases in the country(Cheryl excluded!)

Oklahoma is the best team in the country, yep I know I said that about USC, but I don't see the Sooners losing to a bad team like the Trojans did. If they slip up it will be vs. one of the tough Big 12 teams they have to play.

I have changed my mind, the Big 12 is the best conference in the country and I put the SEC slightly behind them. Although I still think Texas Tech is massively overrated, but maybe Florida was too? The weakest is easily the ACC, and I don't think that even Topolk can argue in their favor anymore. When your supposed best team loses to Navy that's a problem, and I was sorry to see Clemson lose to the Terps. Tough year for the ACC, whoever their champ plays in a BCS bowl will be licking their chops.

When I lose at something whether it be a tennis match, or my Boilers, or anything the best thing for me is to get right back and play again to wash that memory away. Thankfully this was not Purdue's last game, unfortunately the next one is top 10 Penn State, ought oh! Our defense was GOD awful yesterday, on a day when our offense actually played well, our QB almost threw for 400 yards, but still left too many points on the field. If our D was that bad against a pathetic Irish team, I am not sure what Penn State will do to us this weekend. However, I am the optimist and will be there rooting on my Boilers! Unlike some of our fans counting down the day til our top 15 basketball team takes the court.

Excited that good TV starts again! Although I watch WAY too much tv, I am glad to have back all my favorite shows and not having to watch reruns. Nothing else going on here, after a slow week last week for homecoming, this week will pick up.

First off just finished watching Oregon State SHOCK Southern Cal tonight wow, maybe Penn State is really really good! What a BIG upset by the Beavers!
Welcome to week four of Purdue football. Last time out was a close one but as I always say I don't care if win 2-0 a win is a win. Next up is our hated rival the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. I am sure I have mentioned I hate Notre Dame, I don't just hate them I REALLY hate them. It goes back to Lou Holtz purposely running the score up on us year after year. This year's version of the No Fight In them Irish, has recently been in the media for cheating, yes the patriots apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Fat Charlie had one of his coach's in the press box with a computer against Michigan State. Real classy Notre Dame, real classy. This is not a very good ND team, they barely beat San Diego State who lost to Cal Poly, however we ALWAYS struggle in South Bend, and I believe it will be a dogfight once again, on to the picks.

That sound you heard Saturday was a big sigh of relief

PHEW!
We didn't blow it this time, my Boilers won a thriller over Central Michigan 32-25. In a crazy game it literally came down to the last minute. I try not to make excuses in wins or losses, but it seemed it was clearly a Hangover Ala Duck early on. We had no emotion and were flat for pretty much 3.5 quarters and woke up just in time. Even when we had a big play the emotion just wasn't there. You can't do that with a team like Central, who believe it or not is a damn good team. They have one of the best quarterbacks in the country, and they had a chip on their shoulder where Purdue was concerned. If you missed it we were up 24-17 with 3 mins to go when a questionable fumble call was given to CMU. They drove down to our 4, and after a sack they found the endzone, and went for 2. After another questionable call that was reviewed they were awarded the conversion, sending the Chip fans into hysterics. Stupidly they kicked to our great return guy and he brought it out to the 39 and got a facemask penalty giving us great field position. It took one play a handoff to Kory Sheets, and he made an incredible stop and go move and scampered the rest of the way and after successfully going for two we were back in the lead. CMU's next drive we did what we have struggled all of Tiller's career at Purdue doing we closed it with an interception. A history making game as Tiller became the all time winningest football coach in Purdue history, and Kory Sheets became the all time touchdown leader. Now onto the cheating Irish!

As for the picks, yours truly did really bad, congrats to Duck for outpicking me he deserved it.

Other observations
Congrats to Duck's Boise State Broncos for finally beating a BCS team on the road. Although I think us Boiler backers deserve some credit for taking out their QB and having Oregon play their 3rd string guy. BSU about blew a lead just like we did!

The SEC is the best conference in the country. That being said Georgia, Florida, and LSU are the class of the SEC, but you better not sleep on Cheryl and Gary's Alabama Crimson Tide. The worlds largest outdoor cocktail party might decided who goes to the National Title Game from the SEC.

Speaking of LSU that game with Auburn was amazing. What a game so many ups and downs for both teams, and I am sure you Bama fans that read this blog don't mind Auburn losing. I want to point out that had LSU gotten that last two point conversion I would have been spot on with my pick.

The ACC is bad. When your two highest ranked teams play to such a boring game that doesn't bode well for the rest of the season. I am going with my buddy, Topolk's, Clemson Tigers to win the ACC they in my opinion are the best team in the conference. The ACC should schedule more Big East teams that's the only league they can compete against.

Has everyone heard the latest, Notre Dame and head coach Fat Charlie caught cheating at the MSU game. Using a computer in the press box which is absolutely 100% ILLEGAL! I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the Patriots Tree for Fat Charlie. At least he remembers his roots. I hate Notre Dame with a major passion.

How about some love for Ball State! The Cardinals had lost 42 straight times to a BCS school, and Saturday they scored 42 points in clobbering the hapless hoosiers of IU! I loved every minute of it too. The only scary part came when BSU's best receiver took a nasty hit and was taken to the hospital. Apparently he had an operation on his spinal cord and is said to be in good shape. It was a great weekend, Purdue won, IU Lost, and Notre Dame lost doesn't get much better than that!

Alright everyone have a great week, sorry this is a day late. Dancing with the stars starts tonight, Kristen is picking Lance Bass to win, I am going with Misty May-Treanor. We'll see maybe we should bet on who will last longer.

Boiler Up Bitches!

First off how about a big CONGRATS to Mr Shife and his wife expecting their first baby! CONGRATS you guys!!! Phats for a boy?

Welcome to week three of Boilermaker football. Last time out my beloved Boilers lost a tough one to the Oregon Ducks 32-26 in double OT. It was especially painful because we had the game won, but just couldn't seal the deal. Now it's time to move on to a very dangerous MAC team that Purdue is very familiar with, the Central Michigan Chippewas. We played them last year in Sept and beat them handily, met them again in the Motor City Bowl clipped em on a last second field goal, and this will be the third time we will play them in a year. Should be a great day at Ross Ade Stadium Saturday.

This week's guest picker might get the distinction of being the funniest. His picks were pretty good and comical. It's none other than that Boise State Bronco, Duck. You can check his blog out through my links, however Mr. Duck is on a blog hiatus so enjoy his archives. On to the games.

Duck- I think the Vandals blow just a tad more than the Aggies (although it's really really close), and Utah State's at least got the home field thing going on. Here's hoping that all five of the Aggies' fans make enough noise to disrupt Idaho's vaunted offensive attack, and pull their team home for the "victory". There is an outside chance of a 0-0 tie though. UTAH STATE

Duck- Here we have a battle of two excellent team names my friends. The Ragin' Cajuns vs. the Golden Flashes of Kent State (by the way, when did we get a 51st state called Kent? I didn't get the memo). I don't know anything about either of these two teams (or really any of the other teams I'm picking either if you haven't figured that out yet), but I think the Golden Flashes will prevail in this one. I think the cajuns can only stay enraged for so long before they figure out that everything's basically ok and there's just not that much to be mad about if you really sit down and think about it. They may flit around a bit in the beginning of the game and poop on those oh-so-long horns of the opposition, but eventually they've got to land, and that's when the aforementioned trampling begins. Fortunately for me, I rely on my gigantic brain to actually think things through and reason it out rather than taking that sissy approach. Oh, and my fantastic brain is telling me that the Auburn variety of tiger will win this game handily. AUBURN

Duck- I'll do my best to avoid the semen jokes here regarding FSU's name (oops too late) and say that Florida State's going to come into this game as the more prepared of the two teams, although the Demon Deacons may be a stiff opponent. Yeah, so Florida State wins. Feel free to follow along with all the mindless sheep at the stadium and practice your tomahawk chop hand motion now. Cause that's not offensive or anything. Central Michigan Chippewas at Purdue Boilermakers
Duck- Purdue lost a tough one last week and will proceed to make the poor little Central Michigan Chippewas their collective bitches for approximately three hours. By the time this game's over the Chippewa players are going to be thinking to themselves, "I guess we should have boilered the #*&! up, huh? I mean, we clearly chose the wrong team to play for if we wanted to actually play competitive football at the collegiate level. We could really learn a lot from those beasts at Purdue. Now THAT'S a football team right there. And have you seen their cheerleaders? Holy cow they're awesome. We are a lousy excuse for an NCAA football program. Let's just disband right now after that thrashing." PURDUE

Phats- First off I love that you put the Cheerleader comment in there classic. This game scares me quite a bit, this is a good MAC team with a good quarterback. Couple that with the fact we're coming off a heartbreaking loss. I see us starting slow but picking up steam as the game goes on. The one thing that CMU struggles with is defense and our D has really performed well so far, look for the Boilers to run away with it late.

Yeah, we lost to Oregon 32-26 in double overtime, and Phats is depressed so who the hell is going to cheer me up? All in all it was a great day at Ross Ade Stadium Saturday, they were saying 70% chance of showers and we never got a drop! Nutz went with and we packed all our rain gear, and never had to pull them out so that was good. Anyone watch the game? First let me tell you I don't like Oregon and I hope Duck's Boise State Bronco's KILL them this week. If you didn't watch the game we scored on our second play from scrimmage sending Ross Ade into an absolute frenzy, and took a 20-6 halftime lead, still didn't feel good but felt like we could do it. Here is where it all went wrong.
1. Our QB throws a pick right before halftime, leading to a field goal for the Ducks to make it 20-6 rather than 20-3
2. 4th and 1 from our own 45 sure it's risky but go for it Tiller, it's not like you're protecting your job, and if we don't get it we're still up 20-6. Instead we punt and they return it to the house for a TD.
3. Score tied 23-23, we're driving with time running out. We have 1 time out get down to the 27 of Oregon, and choose to run the time to 2 secs call the timeout and try the game winning field goal. Our kicker misses a 44 yarder bad. I would have liked to see them either try for the endzone or get more yardage then call the TO.

As for the guest picker, Cher, she did a great job this week, doing a very respectable 9-5

It's no surprise we lost we haven't beaten a ranked team since 03, and we lost this one in typical Purdue fashion. That being said I am encouraged that we were the better team on the field for most of the game. I also like how after they came all the way back and tied it we responded and retook the lead. It was a tough loss, and we better regroup fast, hopefully I will have my voice back for Saturday's game.

Other observations
Sure it would have been nice for the Big Ten if OSU could have won that game Saturday, but it was also nice to see them get their ass handed to them, because I hate the Suckeyes. That being said Penn State or Wisconsin will win the big ten mark it down.

Travis, I am just waiting for Nebraska to play someone it sounds like 2 weeks we'll see how good they are for real, although I am not sure Va Tech is that good this year. Should be a good game.

Cheryl, I am glad I don't have to pick on you and that Bama cruised! I know how you hate close games. Did you see your rivals score? 3-2??? what the hell?

I hate Notre Dame, and their superiority complex. So, they basically get a gift wrapped win from Michigan, and their players are squawking about respect after the game. I didn't see the game, but I read about it and Notre Dame had 14 points on 9 total yards. Michigan self imploded, I really hope Michigan State pounds the domers good this week, and shuts up their arrogant fanbase.

The weekend wasn't a total wash, Carlos Zambrano pitched a no hitter tonight for my CUBBIES!!! The brewers lost two widening the NL Central lead for the Cubs. Is this the year the curse is broken? I sure hope so man

Time to go Duck Hunting

Welcome to week 2 of the Purdue football season, and the competition steps up a pretty big notch this week as the Boilermakers welcome #14/#16 Oregon Ducks to Ross Ade Stadium. To say I am nervous for this one is an understatement, but I am also excited and glad we aren't feasting on a cupcake again. Last time out the mighty Boilers dropped Northern Colorado 42-10 in a game that was too close for most of the fans liking. Me, I believe we went very vanilla and every press conference Coach Tiller gave, he said I am not going to run up the score one bit. This week, should be a great game.

The big question is going to be can we contain Oregon's speed. That might decide the ballgame, one thing that might help us is the forecast is calling for rain! Phats has his poncho all ready to go for the rain game, Nutz is going with on this one hopefully she is bringing her rain stuff too, and that damn cowbell! Everyone is hyping the Oregon DB's as the best in the nation, and I believe our Mr Painter will give them a stern test Saturday. It should be a good game, and probably a shootout, or the team with the ball last wins type game. The game will be carried by ABC in most of the midwest, and outside of the midwest it will be carried on ESPN at 3:30 look for me!

Weekend Wrap Up, and oh yeah Notre Dame STILL sucks

Hey Kids
So Purdue opened the 2008 football season with a 42-10 win over Northern Colorado. It was a good way to start the season, but on some fronts a disappointment as well. Sure we won, and the game was never in jeopardy, however it would have been nice to dominate a little more. Hopefully first game jitters are out because we need our A game for the Oregon Ducks this Saturday. It was great being back at Ross Ade Stadium for college footbal I still say there is nothing better than college football, you can't beat it the atmosphere is incredible. No matter how old I get I think I will ALWAYS get goosebumps when the jumbotron fires up When Worlds Collide, then the team enters with the cheerleaders leading the way, and the band marching off the field playing Hail Purdue. Not only do I get goosebumps but it just takes me back to when I was on the field awaiting the team, those were the days great memories I will never forget.

Which means I get to move in rent free right Tena? If you want to know the scores of any of the games just scroll on down. As for my observations of week 2 of college football, lets start with the rankings
I don't like what I am seeing early, the voters dropping teams after wins. USC jumps Georgia to become number 1 after week one when both teams won? Ohio State drops from 3 to 5 after beating Ohio? Look OSU wasn't impressive, however I firmly believe it had nothing to do with Ohio, and more to do with looking ahead to USC, and recovering from the shock of losing Wells for who knows how long. Teams shouldn't be punished for their schedule bottom line.

ECU the next in line to fill the Boise State/Hawaii shoes in the BCS bowls? What a start for the Pirates, and for the record it was the only game I missed, and I almost took East Carolina. It's hard to like anything related to a Holtz, but this team is definitely the real deal. The big difference between them, the BSU team that beat OU, and Hawaii last year, they actually play real competition. It will be interesting to see how they do the rest of the way.

Notre Dame is still bad, and if we lose to them oh god I feel like shit. Anyone watch the ND game? I got home in time to watch the end. First off San Diego State is suppose to be the worst team in D1, they lost to Cal Poly! If the Aztecs score that TD instead of fumbling, and I am not sure if the refs got that right or not, I think Notre Dame loses. In the South Bend paper the SDSU coach was asked who was better Cal Poly or ND, he had to think about it! Next up is the wounded wolverines.

Which brings me to Michigan, after last year I never count them, they dropped their first two then went on to a New Year's Day bowl and promptly beat the Florida Gators from the Media Darling SEC conference. So you never know with UM, I will root for them this week though against the Irish.

The Big Ten went 11-0 this week any other conferences boast that claim? Northwestern beat Duke Topolk ;) Joe Pa might be losing respect with some of his decisions but he might have the best team in the big ten this year, which is scary.

Well, that's it for the football wrap up. I enjoyed watch the US Open Womens final tonight on CBS. I was rooting for Jelena, but was happy for Serena you could tell it really meant alot. Can't believe the Colts lost to the Bears, but again was happy for Kyle Orton!

Hell Ya, It's Boilermaker football season

Welcome back Purdue football, oh how I have missed you, and wonder what great entertainment you'll bring me this week. I prepared for the game by watching Big Ten Network's greatest games us beating #4 Kansas State in the Alamo Bowl when Brees threw a TD with 30 secs to go to win 37-34 and I saw myself on TV on the sidelines. This could be an interesting season for a couple reasons. 1. Nobody is really sure what we will be like, we have one of the best passing quarterbacks in the country, but most of our marquee receivers graduated. 2. This is Coach Tiller's last year which makes me sad. He turned this program around instantly, his first season he took a team that was 3-8 the previous year and led us to an Alamo Bowl victory over Oklahoma State. He has guided us to a bowl game every year but one and I for one will miss the man. Alright onto the preview, by the way those of you who don't like sports, you will hopefully still comment, but you can also scroll down to my previous post.

So, tomorrow the Mighty Boilermakers play host to the Northern Colorado Bears. Purdue has had a hell of a time scheduling teams since they went to 12 game schedules, and Northern Colorado was chosen probably because their head coach used to be a Tiller assistant. I am not going to lie I know nothing about the Bears, but I hope I we treat them the same way we treated Eastern Illinois last year in our opener, and I hope our offense rolls. If it doesn't this will be a long season. I am very excited because the first three games are all home, so I will be traveling to West Lafayette quite a bit here the next couple weeks. The game is at Noon on the Big Ten Network, look for me if you get it!

Vacation Wrap Up

Hello Kids
First off I will get the sports talk out of the way. A big thank you to Cheryl for her great guest post, if you missed it scroll down and check it out. Secondly I hate to brag but I did predict a BIG Bama win, it's just lucky they were playing the Clemson Girl Scouts and not my Boilers haha sorry Topolk. I recently took the last vacation of summer to Great Wolf Lodge and Kings Island in Mason OH. It was a family vacation, celebrating my nephew's 4th birthday. He was asked what he wanted and he said to go to Great Wolf! For those that don't know Great Wolf Lodge is a giant indoor water park, that's right next door to Kings Island so it was a win/win for me. We went the 22nd - 24th we all met up at my sister's and took off around 3 separated in girls car and boys car. I put my IPOD on and slept making the 2 hr drive seem like nothing.


Got there Friday around 5ish and all of us got on our swimsuits and headed straight for the water park, it was a pretty cool place. My 3 nephews are like fish, and I think they scare the lifeguards for sport it's quite funny. After the little ones started in the kiddie area, we all moved on to the racing slides which were cool, then hit the family raft ride. It was a blast! The more people you had the faster you went, and we had the max of 5 people so we flew down that baby. Tried out the wave pool that was fun, and then my favorite the lazy river, since everyone knows I am a lazy person. After a great night at the water park we had a nice dinner which the birthday boy Caden fell asleep during ha!


Saturday was my favorite day because I got to go to Kings Island! I am a coaster nut I love roller coasters, so I was all excited. We did split shifts because more than one person wanted to go but some people had to stay with the kids. So, my brother in law and I went first right as it opened and headed for the newest roller coaster there called Firehawk. Design Goddess it used to be at Geauga Lake, you lay down it was crazy! I have never gone up a hill on my back before that was wild. When it was over we had to wait to unload, laying on our backs for a few minutes evidently the train in front of us some girl chickened out and it took awhile to get her off. Crazy. My brother in law and I got on all the major coasters there, including my favorite The Beast! The best wooden roller coaster in the world hands down. After lunch we headed back to the hotel, cooled off in the water, and then my brother in law's dad and I ventured back to Kings Island. Now, he wanted to go, but when he saw the roller coasters up close he started to get cold feet. We spent the whole first hour walking to each of them so he could see if he could do them. It was kind of funny actually haha. I finally got him on one, a family coaster and let me tell ya I have never been more nervous to be on a roller coaster, but luckily he loved it. He did talk me onto a water ride, I usually don't ride those no interest in walking around with my clothes soaked. Of course we got drenched! After that he started getting more brave and we got on the racer a wooden coaster, and then I talked him onto the Beast for the last ride of the night! The best time to ride that ride is late at night because it goes so fast, and through the woods so you have no clue where you're going it's so awesome, again was very nervous for him, but after the first hill he was screaming Hallelujah Jesus! So I am pretty sure he liked it.

The last day of the trip was more of the water park then headed back home to conclude our last trip of the summer. It was a great trip had a lot of fun and enjoyed being with my family which is a rarity. I can't believe it's September already!
