Week 2 Lets Go Boilers

Boy this being a holiday week it went FAST now the weekend is upon us yet again, and week two of college football is now here, and we welcome the NFL to the fold as well. The Boilers will hit the road for the first time after surviving a major scare in their opener in temperatures on the field that reached 121. Oddly enough that might help them for this week as we travel to Houston, Texas to take on the Rice Owls. Should be a good test for the Boilers, and hopefully we will have improved from week one or we might come home with a loss. Another bright spot it sounds like quarterback Robert Marve will be available to play some as well, looking forward to another great weekend of football.

New England Patriots(Thomas) at Miami Dolphins
Booya- Oh puulease! This is the battle of the still ises and the never really was. Sure Miami has Bush but what about…well… that’s really all there is. If I know Tom Brady, and I don’t, I know that he is tired of hearing about himself, and his hair, in the off season and he is going to want to shut some people up. But it’s not really going to end up like that. For some reason I see this Monday night show down coming out something like

Pittsburgh Steelers(Rocket) at Baltimore Ravens
Booya- Right out of the gate this should be a good game. And to be honest with you it is pretty well balanced. The Ravens have Falco, Evans, Rice & Boldin on offense. Match that to Rothlisberger, Ward, Miller & Mendenhall on the Steelers. On the surface it should be pretty even matched up. And as far as talent it is, but here is something that you got to keep in mind this is Evens first year on the team and Boldin only has one year on the team. What does this mean? It means that a major part of your offense may not have had time to gel as a unit during this interesting off season, while the Steelers have been together for a few years. Advantage, Steelers. Now, on to the other side of the ball, on the Ravens you got two big names in Terrence Cody and Ray Lewis. BUT! While Lewis is seasoned and known to be a motivator and leader on the D, Cody, who was a beast in college, only has one year in the pros under his belt. The Steelers D has Polamalu, McFadden and Taylor in their secondary. Remember earlier when I was talking about Baltimore’s offense not being so seasoned? This is where the Steelers are going to pick them apart. Honestly, do you think that if Evans runs a route wrong (this is football talk Phats, just pretend that you understand) Polamalu wont pick him apart? Not to mention that Troy is in contract talks so he is going to show that he is worth all of those millions, even the ones that he is not getting from a shampoo company. So unless Lewis has a knife with him, advantage Steelers. My prediction –

Minnesota Vikings(Thomas) at San Diego Chargers
Booya- Are you kidding me? Without LT the Chargers have sucked ass. I mean they do have talent on the offense and an average D but with the amount of talent that the Vikings have on offense Fran Tarknton’s old ass could be under center and still beat the Bolts.

Wofford Terriers at Clemson Tigers(Topolk, Emily)
Booya- Is Clemson playing a middle school? How did they swing that? What, did the University of Phoenix have a game against the Universal Technical Institute this Saturday? How easy is it to win the ACC? I heard that Vegas set the spread on this game with Clemson giving seven million points. Come on, the cheerleaders could probably beat The Terriers. I bet the kids in my neighborhood could bet the Terriers. Final score,

Booya- Oh damn, Uu La La versus Kent Read, Kent Write, Kent State huh. I saw Kent State play last week and they were better than I thought they would be, which means diddly squat. But I do think that they are the better team and the game is in their back yard.

Fresno State Bulldogs at Nebraska Cornhuskers(Travis)
Booya- Stevie Wonder could see who is going to win this game, the Huskers. But not because they are scary talented but because of the media/Texas A&M educed future implosion of the Big 12. You see every school in the Big 12 except Texas and Oklahoma are looked at as secondary, especially when it comes to football. Now each of those schools are playing with a chip on their shoulders, just the way I like it! Unfortunately for the Bulldogs they are probably going to get the snot beat out of them (Get’er done!). When the final seconds tick off of the clock the scoreboard is going to look something like

Booya- This game is going to be a great time, a great time to take a nap. Talk about getting screwed by Lane Kiffen, good god what happened to Tennessee? And Cinci is one of those underdog surprise you teams. But I just don’t think they will in this game.

BYU Cougars at Texas Longhorns(Chery & Gary)
Booya- Come on, it’s Texas, they’re always supposed to win right? *Corso voice* not so fast my friend! You know how some games have names, like the Red River Shootout, The battle for the golden axe or whatever it’s called and so on? This game is going to get a name too. It will be called the Mack Brown early retirement game. Sure the Longhorns are favored by a mighty 7 points and have that dominating win over Rice last week (insert eye roll here) but BYU squeaked out a 1 point win over Ole Miss last week. That might not sound very impressive on the surface but if you watch you will see that Huston Nutt is named correctly because he is a nut, he is F’ing crazy. He would kick his grandmother down a flight of stairs to win a game, in other words he’s not an easy win. I’m picking an upset with this one,

Phats- Man I am tempted to pick the upset here, but I just don't trust a school with so many odd rules, I mean you can't drink coke?! Cuss?? Have sex? WTF! these are college kids. HOOK EM HORNS!

Booya- This game is going to be a little different than some might think. You see MTSU has a way of playing better than people expect them to. Meaning that they don’t completely suck. But they are pretty bad. My pick, the Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech. Final outcome of this barn burner,

Phats- I got to see MTSU up close and personal, and this could be a tough game for the Jackets, especially on the road. I think Tech will win but I bet it's a lot closer than most people think it will be. By the way MTSU might have the gayest mascot I have ever seen a fing horse with wings?!

Booya- Oh god, who do I pick here. On the one hand you got the Gamecocks who hung 56 on East Carolina last week BUT their D allowed that same East Carolina to score 37 points on them. Then there is UGA who lost to Boise St, who I think is over ranked, in Hotlanta, by 14 points. Going with my gut here and putting

Phats- Dawgs in danger of falling to 0-2 and Mark Richt in danger of his seat getting hot if they lose this one. South Carolina put a lot of points on the board in week 1, but this is a better defense they will be facing. Crucial game, crucial start to the SEC Gamecocks take it

Alabama Crimson Tide(Booya, Gary, & Cheryl) at Penn State Nittany Lions
Booya- Oh man, this rivalry is one that I remember from when I was a little smart ass, two of the greatest minds in college football, Joe Pa and Bear Bryant, battling it out on the gridiron. And you knew it was always going to be a low scoring game because defense wins championships. And Joe Pa is still there! Talk about tradition. But there is a different coach at Alabama now. And he is like the Honey Badger, he doesn’t give a shit about tradition, except for the tradition of winning. He also has a team stacked with talent. He just needs to knock off that splitting time QB crap. In other words, they are going to rename Penn State, Title Town North after the Tide rolls.

Phats- This is not the powerhouse Penn State teams of the past, but let me tell you one thing Happy Valley will be rocking and rolling Saturday and I think there is a GREAT shot that the Lions pull the upset. Purdue Boilermakers(me) at Rice Owls
Booya- Is it bowl season already? Because this sounds like a bowl game to me, the toilet bowl. With that 3 point win over MTSU last week I can’t see Purdue winning this one. And when the Owls win they will probably cut off the head of that stupid Purdue Pete mascot, put it on a stick, pee on it and then set it on fire and march it around the stadium. But that’s just me, I could be wrong. If the players and coaches can stay awake for the whole game I see the outcome something like this,
