Lets quickly wrap up week 1, the Boilers played well for a season opener in South Bend. Our young secondary held up quite nicely, it was our offense that didn't start performing until the second half. We out gained them in total yardage, had the ball longer, and tied in first downs, overall lots to work on but still happy. Now we have 3 straight weeks of home games before our bye week, and it all starts with Western Illinois this Saturday. Team of the week from week 1, definitely Boise State, but before putting too much stock in this win, lets not forget Virginia Tech plays in the ACC, the ACC is easily the worst power conference in the country, still hell of a win for Boise! Typically I would pick Tech hands down. I liked Tech when Leach was there. But they got Tubs coaching them now and he strives for mediocrity.
Yeah sure he beat Alabama for a few years, while Alabama was down and struggling but the last time he played them Auburn got shut out and then Tubs got fired. But we are talking about Tech and New Mexico, two teams that I would typically like to see win, again depending on who they were playing.
So last week Tech beats SMU by 8 points.
Now June Jones is making some big changes at SMU but he hasn’t made that many changes.
Then there is New Mexico, they got the shit kicked out of them last weekend by Oregon 72-0.
So yeah, I still think that Tech is going to win but I think it’s going to be closer to

Illini 49 – Salukis 3.Phats- Illinois is suppose to be down this year, yet put up a good fight against their rival Missouri. Southern Ill also has Purdue connections but in basketball as Matt Painter got his first head coaching job there. This one will be a lot closer than people think.
