Going for three straight, on Halloween!

First off Happy Halloween to everyone, what is everyone going as this year? I am going to be Linus from peanuts this year. Also, I want to give a HUGE shout out to the Boilermakers, whose mens basketball team checks in the first rankings of the season at #7!! Bring on the hoops action baby! The season tips of Tuesday with the first exhibition game of the season, I think being excited is an understatement. Alright onto some football!

So, the Boilers are on a 2 game winning streak after defeating Illinois last week 24-14. Nothing exciting about the game but a win is a win is a win. We got back to some old school football of running the ball til they could stop it, and uhh they couldn't. Our quarterback even had 70 yards rushing! This week, on Halloween, the Boilers travel to one of the toughest places to play in the country, Madison Wisconsin, and Camp Randall Stadium to take on those Pesky Badgers. Over the years we've had some excellent games with Wisconsin, my Senior year(the rose bowl year) we blocked a field goal in OT and ran it in for the game winning touchdown, a couple of years later in front of ESPN's college game day our field goal kicked kicked the game winner, and then a few years after that with ESPN gameday looking on Wisconsin stole one, a game us Boilers don't like to talk about on a fumble that had one of the most blatantly missed facemasking calls I have ever seen. I will never forget the next day's paper that was the picture. Oh well, this is 2009 and no gameday for a 3-5 team. Wisconsin is a tough team, and play great at home we need to bring our A game and play mistake free if we want to win this one.

This might be the last obstacle before the Big 12 title game for Texas to get into the National Title game. The winning streak is on the line here folks in one of the toughest environments in all of college football. The one good thing is it is a noon game. If we take care of the ball I like our chances, if we fumble and have a ton of interceptions it's bye bye winning streak. I think it comes down to a Carson Wiggs(The best damn field goal kicker in the country) nailing a 40 yarder and the Boilers pull another big win out, and can start to think of a bowl game. BOILER UP!

Back 2 Back wins baby

WOOHOO!! We won back to back games for the first time since 2007 after we knocked off the Fighting Illini 24-14 Saturday at Ross Ade Stadium. So the game wasn't all the exciting especially after beating the Buckeyes, but a win is a win! I was quite nervous because they scored first and I thought oh no here we go again a let down versus a sucky team Northern Illinois all over again. We answered right back though when our running back ripped off a 44 yard TD run. Oddly enough he was only in for that play because our starter lost his shoe on the play before! Next up a Halloween date with the Wisconsin Badgers at Camp Randall Stadium, we'll need all the tricks to bring home the treats!

As for the picks neither Topolk or I were on top of our game, but I don't think either of us care because our own teams won!

Around College Football
So who's number 1? Last week Alabama leap frogged Florida, and now Florida has jumped them right back. These two could possibly do this the rest of the year until they meet, the question is if they are both undefeated in the SEC Title game, does the loser have enough power to still go to the title game??

Alabama should have lost, even Cheryl, Gary, and Booya can probably admit that. Any other SEC team and that is probably a loss on the Tide's record, but Tennessee just seems lost this year. I was surprised the ref didn't penalize Bama for their player taking off his helmet and celebrating while the last play of the game was still going on, but when you're #2 I guess you can get away with that. I think the 1 weakness I see in Alabama is they have no offense, or at least it's not very good. Sure Defense wins championships but when they run up against someone that can score(Florida and Tebow) they could be in some trouble.

I am actually convinced there isn't a GREAT team this year in college football. A lot of good teams but none of been outstanding like in years past.

Miami-Clemson was a GREAT and entertaining game! What a fun game to watch that was, and how shocking they play in the worst BCS conference in football. I found myself vocally cheering for Clemson as the game wore on, maybe it's because I don't like Miami much, that FIU brawl still stands out. Was glad Clemson won even though I didn't pick them.

Who goes to the BCS bowl game, TCU or Boise State? Is there room for both? I see TCU has jumped Boise State in the latest BCS standings. I think whoever doesn't get in should petition to take the ACC champs at large spot! Although I am worried that if Boise does get in it will be another "Hawaii" Go to a BCS game and get humiliated by real competition.

Can the Notre Lame fans PLEASE stop saying they are good? Look at it this way, we aren't a good football team this year and we should have beaten your sorry asses. I hate Lou Holtz, and I would like to punt that shriveled up raisin if given the chance GOD WHAT A HOMER!

Anyone watch the Amazing Race?? Tonight's episode was really good, be warned if you watch and haven't yet don't read this. So the last thing the teams had to do tonight before checking in with Phil was go down a tall ass water slide, and we heard in a previous episode that Mika was scared of both water and heights(great combo right) anyway they were in next to last place with only the globetrotters behind them. As they were on top of the slide she literally lost her shit freaking out like nobody's business, the best part though was she was wearing FLOATIES! Have you ever seen an adult wear floaties?? It got so crazy that at one point I seriously thought her boyfriend who she is running the race with was going to throw her down the slide. He took her in his arms and started walking to the slide with her kicking and screaming "Help me, Help me!" It was classic! So anyway, usually on the Race when this happens it's edited to look like that team won't complete it but then they do, uhh not tonight! She just kept refusing her boyfriend kept yelling stuff like "a water slide is going to cost us to get eliminated" in the meantime the Globetrotters finally caught up, but they had to give Mika 2 mins to go down the slide. After she couldn't do it, game set match! They were eliminated by a water slide! It was for 1 million dollars I think I would somehow find the courage to go down a slide that was probably 40 secs long. I probably would have pushed her, I know I am a jackass, but 1 million dollars and my competitiveness would have gotten the better of me I am sure. I still can't believe she was wearing floaties to go down a water slide! I think that teams that sign up for this that are scared of heights or water either are dumb to think there won't be such tasks, or have never actually seen the show.

Well, the euphoria of beating Ohio State last week still hasn't rubbed off and going to work on Monday after the HUGE win was great!! However, that was last week and now we take on the Illinois Fighting Illini at home, with a noon kickoff on ESPN 2. Sure it could be easy to look past the 1-6 Illinois team with their only win coming over Illinois State, but rest assured the Boilers won't they know they can't afford to! We still have something to play for even if it's slim!

Phats- The big difference between TCU and Boise State is, TCU actually gets tested in the Mountain West Conference and here is a big one at BYU. When you are a mid-major one loss and you are done so that's what makes this such a tough game for TCU I can't even imagine the pressure. However, the hornfrogs know how to win in tough environments just ask Topolk, they will TCB and keep rolling towards a BCS bowl.

Clemson Tigers(Topolk) at Miami Hurricanes
Topolk- Oh man. Talk about drama here. With GT beating VT last week, this game will go a long way in determining who's in first place in both the ACC Atlantic and the ACC Coastal. Miami's been impressive this year -- mostly due to their star QB Jacory Harris. On the flipside, Clemson has been less than impressive at times, but they do show flashes of brilliance. If my Tigers can put together a game like they did last Saturday against Wake Forest, we might have a chance of leaving Miami with the W. As such...

Phats- OK I am not a fan of the Canes, but I can admit they are a pretty good football team, right up there with Virginia Tech, and Georgia Tech as the cream of the crop in the ACC. Clemson has some odd L's on their record, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit to see them pull this off. It will be a good game, but in the end Miami a little too much for the Tigers.

Illinois Fighting Illini(Tsofah) at Purdue Boilermakers(Phats)
Topolk- Oh Big 10. The way that conference has been this year, outside of Iowa, I don't know who's going to win from week to week. With Illinois's lukewarm performances, they could win against Purdue, but they could also lay down and play dead too. Coming off of the big win over OSU, Purdue is going to be up for this game. The question is though, will they be too amped? I think Purdue comes in overfocused and underprepared (if that makes sense) and loses this one in heartbreaking fashion.

O-H-N-O HOW SWEET IT IS!

As you could probably imagine I am on cloud 9 today after the Boilers took out #7 Ohio State Saturday afternoon 26-18. It's always the best feeling to win, and a lot of fun but this one was special. I will never get how pissed I was at Purdue fans 2 years ago to walk into Ross Ade for a night game with OSU both teams undefeated and see a sea of red and buckeyes fans all around the stadium. Stupid Purdue fans, and John Purdue Club members at that had sold their tickets to Buckeye fans. This year wasn't quite as bad, and thank god that stupid O-H-I-O cheer they do didn't go completely around our stadium. This is just one reason why I hate OSU their fans are so arrogant, and obnoxious and everyone roots for any team playing them usually! Ironically enough this game was won on turnovers and for a change this season it wasn't ours! We forced more than we gave up, and held on late to stun the Suckeyes and get a MUCH NEEDED win.

As for the game itself so many players stepped up, but how about our kicker Carson Wiggs who was 4 of 5 on the day including 49 and 55 yarders the latter just as the first half expired giving us a 9-7 halftime lead and some great momentum going into the second half. Our defense also played great especially Ryan Kerrigan(who was awarded a helmet sticker on College Gameday Final! He had three sacks, and 2 fumble recoveries what a beast. However, the person I think I am most happy for is our quarterback Joey Elliot, the 5th year senior who has take the ire of alot of fans, even when he has played pretty well. He had a 300 yard throwing game against a damn good defense, and really ran the offense well. The best feeling though watching the end game celebration as the students spilled onto the field and seeing right in the middle of the celebration Coach Hope, giving away his hat, whistle, and rain coat HA! Loved it, great great victory.

As for the guest picker, if you didn't figure it out Duck was picking the opposite of what he thought was going to happen so that kind of skewed his record just a tad. Still one game, Buffalo's to be decided before the final results but right now here is where it stands

Around College Football
Congrats to Alabama for not only getting a big win over the Gamecocks, but becoming the new #1. Here's my only problem Florida didn't lose, so why did they leap frog them?! I am sticking to my guns I think Florida is the best team(Bama hasn't faced anyone with tebow's ability) Texas 2, and Alabama 3. I believe the BCS standings do have Florida 1 though and that's what counts.

Boise State is not a top 10 team. Sorry Duck, and other Bronco fans the win over Oregon was impressive but it can only carry you so far. Almost losing to Tulsa doesn't bode well for what will happen when you actually play competition in a BCS bowl.

Congrats to Shife and the Idaho Vandals, 6-1! Who would have thunk it?! I still think they will either scare the crap out of BSU, or beat them.

Iowa gets little to no respect because they win ugly, but the bottom line the Hawkeyes win. Ferentz is a DAMN good coach, and I do believe yours truly predicted the Hawkeyes would be a sleeper team this year.

Midnight Madness was Friday night officially starting the college basketball season. With everyone returning, including a pretty good group of Freshmen excitement is high at Purdue. Although we couldn't do a midnight madness due to construction going on at Mackey Arena, that doesn't dampen the fact we are all ready for Coach Painter's group to take the floor! Not much else going on, it seems to have gotten cold here alot earlier than in the past. Highs only in the 40's lately, and the Purdue game was a little chilly. Of course winning makes you forget all about that haha :) I guess they are calling for 70's back on Wednesday, I sure hope so I am not ready for the cold yet.

I have found a new author that I absolutely love, and have been flying through her books. Mary Jane Clark, writes psychological thrillers that center around broadcast news, and their staffs. I am getting sad though she only has 2 more books that I haven't read yet. BOO! Hopefully she'll be writing more soon.

So another Saturday last week another loss for the Boilermakers, but unlike everyone else I am trying to keep patience since this was suppose to happen this year. All over the message boards everyone is calling for Hope to be fired immediately, and while he's done some questionable things nothing to get him fired after season 1. We have a blue chip transfer QB that will be eligible to play next year, lets wait and at least see how he does first under Coach Hope. This game is a gold strike game, yet something else the fans are complaining about, I tell ya college football fans sure can be fickle. This week we take on The Ohio State Buckeyes who are ranked #7 I believe in the latest poll, and people like to call them the most overhyped, overrated team in America, but say what you will they simply win. They do it close, they do it ugly, at times get lucky, but they win and you have to admire that. The game is a noon kick off on the Big Ten Network, GO BOILERS!

Guest picking this week is the ever clever, ever witty Duck. I'd suggest you read his blog but he has stopped blogging, he is on twitter though, but little good that does huh? Anyway onto the picks. Lets get this train back on the right track

I am still contemplating on whether I should just sleep til basketball season starts and you all wake me up, see if the Boilers can find another way to lose a game they should win, or see if we can actually turn it around. For now I am going with the latter. Last week sucked, plain and simple it sucked and I am losing patience. What's frustrating is we were suppose to be bad according to everyone, but we're not and that is making it frustrating. We should be 5-0 instead we're 1-4. We found a new way to "give the game" away this past Saturday against Northwestern. I have never seen anything like this, with 2 mins to go before halftime Northwestern was out of timeouts we completely melted down. Gave them three straight turnovers and that led to us only leading 21-19 at half in a half we had completely dominated. I felt bad for our defense because they actually played good but kept having to defend a team starting on our 20 that's not easy. The more frustrating thing we had 4 chances to score in the last seconds of the game from the 5 yard line and couldn't, D'OH! Back to the drawing board I guess. This week we take on Minnesota in their brand spanking new stadium which is outside. I believe snow might even be in the forecast glad this is an away game!

Onto the picks. I dropped the ball again last week, and just had too much on my plate to update the blog. Never fear though I am doing it now. Shife and I ended with records

Phats- The big question is will Tebow play after taking a good shot in the Kentucky game 2 weeks ago. With Tebow Florida is the best team in the country, without him, they are still pretty damn good, but vulnerable especially against a quality team like LSU. It's not easy to win in Baton Rouge, but the Gators will pull it off as Tebow makes a comeback, and probably wraps up another heisman.

This week went fast, even after such heartbreak last week and gameday for Saturday is almost upon us. I can't wait because it's homecoming and that means yours truly will be back on the field cheering my heart out! Needless to say I can't wait for Saturday to get here. If you want to try to get a glance at Phats, the game is Saturday at Noon on the Big Ten Network. Our opponent for homecoming is the 2-2 Northwestern Wildcats who are coming off a loss to the Minnesota Golden Gophers so they will be hungry for a victory as well. While we are 1-3 you'd think my spirits would be at an all time low, but you know what they aren't. Sure I was super pissed we let the game at Oregon slip, especially seeing what they are doing to opponents now, and that loss to Notre Lame was also hard to swallow, but hey this was suppose to be a rebuilding year. I expect a fun exciting homecoming game this weekend, and can't wait even if the forecast is COLD and RAIN! HA GREAT! Onto the picks

Shife- There is something I want to get off my chest. It's about that summer, when I went away to community college. I got an offer to do Playgirl Magazine, and I did it. I did a full spread for Playgirl Magazine. I mean spread man; I pulled my butt apart and stuff. I was totally nude. It was weird, I ... I mean you probably didn't hear about it because I went under the name of Mike Honcho. But I just wanted you to know that I spread my butt cheeks as Mike Honcho. Northwestern Wildcats at Purdue Boilermakers(me)
Shife- And last but certainly not least it is my good friend Phats beloved Boilermakers. They have had a couple of tough losses the past few weeks but I think they are poised for nice bounce back win against Northwestern. You know why? Because they are winners. BTFU. Phats- Well, this is do or die for the Boilers, they are starting over with a clean slate in big ten play at 0-0. Northwestern is a tough team led by a tough coach and this will be a good game. 2 years ago we played them on Homecoming and were trailing going into the 4th quarter when famous Purdue alum Neil Armstrong led SHOUT and after that the Boilers came out and dominated! I see another close game, with the Boilers FINALLY sealing the deal at the end and bringing home the homecoming W!
