Season comes to an End, and oh yeah some Idol Chatter

First off you nonsports kids scroll on down and there is some nonsports stuff. The rest of you IE Cheryl, this is the sports part of the post. So, the season came to end tonight for my beloved Boilers as we lost to North Carolina in the elite 8. What a run though and I am so incredibly proud of this team for all they went thru. Last year after they lost to UNC in the sweet 16 our coach Kristy Curry decided to bolt for Texas Tech. In a couple of months after Coach Sharon Verspy was hired, what a great hire it was. She is a Purdue grad, and one of the all time greats. Coach Curry had signed the #1 recruiting class in the country, but after Coach V was hired two of those recruits chose to go else where. We then lost our projected starting point guard because it was revealed an assistant coach had written a paper for her. Which turned out OK because the one recruit who stayed became our starting point guard, and she is quick as lightning. Then one of our returning players while playing with the Russian National Team tore her ACL, folks we were down to 7 bodies they couldn't even do 5 on 5 drills. This team responded big time, they started out the season on fire winning the Preseason WNIT, but seemed to hit a wall during big ten season. They finished strong though winning the Big Ten Tournament, and first 3 games in the NCAA tournament. We lose 2 great leaders in Katie Gearlds, and Erin Lawless, but if we can get one recruit to stick with us(she was signed by curry) we'll be tough again. It was just a great year for Boiler fans. Our football team returned to the bowl season, although they hit it with a thud. Our mens basketball team returned to the tournament for the first time since 03. And of course our womens basketball team as I already mentioned. The future looks good for the boilers! That's a wrap on the 06-07 Purdue Sports Season, so for one last time, I have added the fight song to the blog again. Enjoy Hail Purdue
BTFU!

N
ow to the nonsports stuff. Before I get to American Idol thoughts for tonight I have to write about something. Most of you know my best friend Jenn who I've talked about before on here(not nutz she is my other best friend) Anyway some big developements from her. She is engaged to be married. Now ordinarily that is a happy time and we celebrate, but it's no secret I can't stand her boyfriend. We don't get along, but the thing is it's not just me nobody likes him! Let me break it down for you here. The kid is 21 yrs old, has not held a job for more then 2 weeks, and is currently on unemployement. To me that is red flag 1. I know for a fact she has put him on all her insurance benefits thru her work, and opened a credit card to help him pay off another one, red flag 2. The kid has a problem with drinking big time. I have met the kid 3 times, and all three times he has been drunk off his ass. The first time he came over later after we arrived it was the first time I was going to meet him, great first impression huh? He was 18 at time, he not only was drunk, but he drove that way. We were going on a trip to an amusement park the next day as a get to know you thin, he was so drunk he was throwing up all night, and was so out of it the next day he spoke 2 words. The next time I went to visit, Nutz was with me, and he was drunk again before we even got there! I know young people drink alot shit I am one but I can't drink, but to me he abused it when he drove red flag 3. He is just really disrespectful, I tried to be nice and get along, but have since given up. Not to mention he stole nutz's card game. The question is what should I do? Do I say something and risk losing one of my best friends? Do I just ignore it and hope he grows up sometime? Do I go to the wedding, Help me Blog Country!!!

Finally, American Idol was pretty good tonight. I love Gwen Stefani, for starters she is HOT. I thought most of the kids did really well. I usually don't like Gina, but I agree with the judges she did a really good job tonight, and for personal reasons I love that song "I'll stand by you" I was shocked when Jordin sang Hey Baby! Wow didn't see that coming she did really well. Chris R, sang one of my favorite songs "don't speak" I agreed with Simon you might go home. So anyway here are my predictions

Top Performances
Gina
Melinda
Jordin
Blake
Thanks for playing bottom three
Haylee, Chris R, Chris S.
Going home Chris R.
I give up on thinking Sanjaya is going home, and wtf did he do to his hair what an asshat(or assclown per shife). I don't like Phil either so if he went home i'd be fine with that. I am also watching dancing withthe stars, and it's not doing it for me this season. The stars suck, but I am interested in how Heather Mills will do, and if her leg ever flys off, or she takes a tumble. It just gets me jazzed though for the better dance show, So you think you can dance!!

You all have a good one
Phats
Spring break is ALMOST here WOOHOO!!

I don't know why I have two different fonts, or why one part is in bold and the other isn't but I am not going to worry about it.

Your Bracket Contest Winners, and How about them Boilers ELITE 8!!

Ahh yes the madness is winding down, and I have the four bracket winners who move on to round 2. Sorry, this is mostly going to be a sports post, and I know that pains most of you. However, I love sports and they are a big part of who I am so you gotta live with it! The bright side is, once basketball is over they should dwindle haha.

Before I make the big announcement of the winners, I have to say big ups to the Purdue Womens Basketball team tonight in taking down the Georgia Bulldogs 78-65. It was an interesting game as we trailed much of the first half by double digits. We finally started playing Boiler Ball, and cut it to 1 point at the half. Second half once we got the lead we never let up. Led by our All American Katie Gearlds 30 pts, and Lindsey Wysdom-Hylton's 28. The Boilers will try to advance to their 4th Final Four on Tuesday night vs the evil North Carolina Tar Heels, and their little punk bitch latta. Should be a good game, it's a rematch of last year's sweet 16 game where that injury faker Latta hit a shot at the buzzer to win it. I hate UNC(sorry shife). Everyone root for the Boilers
BOILER UP!!

Now the moment you have ALL been waiting for the big news of who the hell won the bracket contest. First off thank you all again for participating I hope you had a good time. I was impressed by all of you!! Alright the final standings, and it literally came down to the wire.
Lets start with the Midwest
1st Cheryl = 33 Points
2nd Mike H = 29 Points
3rd The Phoenix = 21 Points
4th Beading = 5 Points
Congrats to Cheryl she won the Midwest and will now move on to pick the final four. I need those picks by Friday Cheryl. Cheryl was probably the most impressive picker of the whole group. Her only real stumble was taking georgia tech but that was really her only mistake. Gotta give major props to Mike H, he knows more then Hockey!

The West
1st The Duck = 28 Points
2nd David = 27 Points
3rd Steph = 3 Points
Congrats to The Duck for winning the West, and he moves on to pick the final four. How the West was won, it's simple Duck picked VCU, whereas David went with his Duke Blue Devils. That was the difference.

The South
1 Nutz = 23 Points
1 Design Goddess = 23 Points
3 Jenn = 5 Points
Congrats to Nutz. She won on tiebreaker procedures(no demanding a recount DG). Nutz had several chances to wrap it up, but her teams kept losing. She correctly picked a closer number of overall points in the regional final, but it was extremely close. Nutz moves on to pick the final four.

The East
1st Jef 31 Points
2nd Mr Shife 24 Points
3rd Fuzz 10 Points
Congrats to Jef for his win, and he will move on to pick the final four. This was the most interesting match up, because it came down to the last game of the day, UNC vs Georgetown. Jef squeaked one out with G'town taking down UNC in Overtime. I told Shife I gave UNC the kiss of death by picking them, sorry Shife. Jef with a nice come from behind win.

Thanks to all who played! We'll do it again next year.

Remember to root for the Boilers Tuesday and
BTFU!
Phats

BTW I am sorry for the lack of comments on your blogs, I have been really busy. I will try and get to them, but if I don't it's not because I don't like you, well some of you! haha!

Phats Day Off

Wow, I am really wiped out and I had today off work! So, here you have it my post mostly void of sports talk for you non sports kids out there in blogland. I took today off, now I know what most of you are thinking, "but Phats didn't you JUST take thurs and friday last week off" Yes, yes I did, but that was for enjoyment I mean come on it's the tournament. Not to mention I take it off every year so my boss just pencils it in. Anyway, today was not a relaxing day off, it was a stressful day off but I have it over with. Today was the day I went for my one year check up at IU Medical Center down in Indy. I get blood work done every three months, and then once a year I must go to the Indy to see the doc. For those of you who don't know the backstory, I had a kidney transplant way back when. For more detailed version email me.

Let me set this up, I am a nervous-reck the whole day of my 1 yr. I am not sure why, I think it has something to do with actually going to the hospital where they can keep me. I get very nervous all worked up so the hour plus drive is fun. So, I made my sister go with me, what a great sister right? We waited about 15 mins, then I got my vitals all mostly OK, I gained a lb though damn it. Then we went to another room where the transplant coordinator sees me and asks if I need any medication refilled. She looks at my chart says everything looks great, nerves calm A LITTLE. Then an intern comes in, she does my check up, and says everything looks great, and I start to relax even more. The doctor finally comes in, gives me the all clear and the nerves are gone. He did decrease one of my meds that I am on, to every other day which is nice! But means more blood work here soon. Then he gave me the news, he is moving to a hospital in Fort Wayne. He gave me two options continue at IU Med with the good doctors there, or that he'd love to have me transfer to Ft Wayne with him. I am choosing to stick with him, he is a great doctor, and I have come to know him and am comfortable with me.

Then came my reward, a trip to Barnes and Noble!! My favorite store on the planet, I can literally spend days in there. My sister and I are both avid readers so we are like kids in candystores in there. I bought me 5 new books, and I can't wait to finish the one I am reading to start these!! So, that was my day off in a nutshell fun eh?

On a sad note, in the last few months there has been a state wide search for a missing Purdue freshman. He went missing after a partying, and police have been combing every inch of the state looking for him. The other day his body was found. It was in an electrical room in a dorm. The parents have to be relieved to have the body, but upset in the condition. He was killed instantly from the coroners report. He had been missing since January.

Everyone have a great rest of the week. I will get to your blogs tonight. I don't have the whole day off I am off to teach classes at the tennis center

Turning our attention to the ladies, and an updated leaderboard

Well, the Boilers run came to an end today vs the defending national champ Florida Gators 74-67. Trust me though they had to earn it, we led for much of the first half, and had leads in the second half. One thing won't change though I don't like Florida and will not be rooting for them. I don't care how far I have them going their team is a bunch of thugs. I don't even feel bad for hoping that someone would throw a ball at Noah's face, he is a retard! Sorry Cheryl, but I will be rooting for Butler!! You hate to have moral victories but this was one, and it ends up being a great stepping stone to next year's season. Thanks for the fun ride seniors and coach Painter. Now we turn the attention to the womens tournament. Our Boilers are the two seed in the Dallas Regional and opened up with an easy win over Oral Roberts. Next up we play Georgia Tech Monday night at 9:30. This match up has an interesting side note. The Jackets are coached by Michelle Joesph, and she is still Purdue's all time leading scorer in the history of the program. She then was an assistant coach at Purdue under Lin Dunn, until some nasty alligation surfaced connecting her and Dunn to some well bad relations ;) and Purdue has never really accepted her back with open arms. So, GO BOILERS!! BTFU

Onto the leaderboard, and we have some interesting results heading into the sweet 16, and some people already eliminated. Two regions I believe are all but wrapped up, while 2 are still up in the air. Lets take a look at the leaderboard remember correct picks for this round were worth 3 points.

The Midwest
Cheryl 9 pts for rd 2 brings her to 16 total points
Mike H 6 pts for rd 2 bringing him to 12 total points
The Phoenix 3 pts for rd 2 bringing him to 9 total points
Beading 0 pts for rd 2 bringing her to 5 total points
Midwest breakdown- I believe mathmatically there is no way for anyone to catch Cheryl, so be ready to pick the final 4 Cheryl! Mike H didn't do bad in this round missing out on both Wisconsin and Maryland. Phoenix only nailed Florida correctly, see never pick the Irish! ha. Beading bowed out of the competition, she went for upsets and almost paid off had Miami been able to upset Oregon.

The West
The Duck- 6 pts for rd 2 brings him to 11 total
David- 6 pts for rd 2 bringing him to 10 total
Steph- 0 pts for rd 2 bringing her to 3 pts total
West breakdown- The big difference in this region was Duck picking VCU and David picking Duke in rd 1. Hence giving Duck 1 more point and since they both took the same teams in the sweet 16 and elite 8, David will be unable to catch Duck. So, Duck it looks like you'll be picking the final four. As for Steph, her Hometown team let her down, IU made a good comeback but fell short and all her picks were eliminated.

The South
Nutzonaroll- 6pts for rd 2 brings her to 11 pts total
Design Goddess- 6pts for rd 2 brings her to 11 pts total
Jenn- 3 pts total bringing her to 5 pts total
The south breakdown- One of the more competitive ones. It all comes down to one game on whether nutz advances or there is a tie. If a tie I will get some kind of tiebreaker to you both. If Texas A&M wins Nutz moves on, if Memphis wins DG will tie Nutz as they both took OSU to win the region. Nutz could have won today had Nevada upset Memphis but the wolfpack lost to the Tigers. Jenn bowed out of the competition, her strategy of picking teams alphabetically backfired early when she was stuck with a 16 seed haha.

The East
Jef- 9 pts for rd 2 brings him to 14 pts total
Mr Shife- 6 pts for rd 2 brings him to 14 pts total
Fuzz- 6 pts for rd 2 brings him to 10 pts
The East- Might be the most intriguing, considering Shife started out 8-0 and might lose. Jef made up big ground only missing one pick in this region. Both Shife and Jef have Georgetown and UNC advancing to the elite 8, but Jef goes with the Hoyas, while Shife sticks with his Heels. It will come down to that game to who advances. Hopefully they both win to make it more fun and interesting. Fuzz went with picking Texas schools in the elite 8 but both have been defeated so he has been eliminated from the competition.

I went 10-6 on round 2 not very good. My bracket at school is much better I am in the running to win woohoo!! I somehow picked Vandy and SIU into the sweet 16, WHAT!? haha.

You non sports fans I promise a non sports post on Thurs.

HELL YA BOILERS WIN!!! And, your bracket leaderboard.

WOOHOO the Boilers are back!! Purdue defeated Arizona tonight 72-63 in New Orleans to set up a match up with the #1 overall seeded, Florida Gators! No matter what happens on Sunday, our Boilers did us proud with a big win. For those that don't know last year we had 9 wins, and the year before 6, so 22 wins is AMAZING! Thank you Boilers, and Coach Painter, In Matt we trust. Now lets go Gator hunting! BTFU! By the way we had the shot of the tournament, and the year. Shot clock winding down, Chris Kramer our Freshman guard pentrates loses his footing falls down to his knees, throws the shot up and hits it. UNFREAKINGBELIEVEABLE! Also all those media people who dogged the big ten, saying Purdue and Illinois didn't belong in the field, after the first round Big Ten is 5-1, so KISS MY ASS CNNSI!

Now, to the contest, here is a look at the leaderboard following all first round games. Some of you took some major hits haha.
The South 8 Possible Points.
Design Goddess 5 Pts
Nutzonaroll 5 Pts
Jenn 2 Pts
Big Winner- Might be Nutz with her pick of Nevada, and how far DG took Creighton(elite 8) Looks like the South is Nutz's to lose. Jenn went with the strategy of the alphabet making her take a 16 seed to the final four, and well that was all she wrote ha.

The East 8 Possible Points.
Mr Shife 8 Pts
Jef 5 Pts
Fuzz 4 Pts
Big Ups to Mr Shife he is the only one in this contest that got all 8 first round picks correct. I bow down to the shifeman. Fuzz took a big hit with Texas Tech going out in rd 1, but could stay in it with Texas going to the final four.. Jef is still in pretty good shape overall even though he lost a couple in the bottom half of the bracket. East though looks like it's Shife's for the taking

The West 8 Possible Points
The Duck 5 Pts
David 4 Pts
Steph 3 Pts
Duck holds a slim lead in this region, but David isn't out of it yet. Tough night for Steph, as Illinois bowed out with a tough loss. Duck can keep the edge with a VCU win tomorrow. Right now a tossup between Duck and David. Sorry steph!

The Midwest 8 possible points
Cheryl 7 Pts
Phoenix 6 Pts
Mike H 6 Pts
Beading 5 Pts
Cheryl would have had the best of first round had it not been for Shife. Her lone miss was Georgia Tech. For a hockey guy I was very impressed with Mike H's picks. Phoenix is still in good shape with three sweet 16 teams alive. Beading went for upsets, but could sneak in there with her elite 8 teams both still alive. Thank you all for picking Purdue as well! Midwest is still up in the air, but I am going with Cheryl as a slight favorite.

I was 24-8 not too bad, I shouldn't have gone with Davidson, and Notre Lame. I figured ND knew Winthrop was being talked about as this year's cinderella and would be ready for them. Oh well.

Thank you all again for participating, best of luck in the next round. Don't forget the winners of region will be picking the final four and championship game. I think the big ? is can Mr Shife stay perfect!

Keep watching March Madness, and BTFU BABY!

As the great Dick Vitale would say "It's AWESOME BABY!"

WE GOT IN!!!! woohoo!! I can't tell you how nervous I was selection sunday, but we were the 4th team announced! A horrible draw, but I am just happy to be in. We are the the 9th seed and play 8th seeded Arizona in New Orleans. I am not going, unless one of you live in New Orleans, and will put me up? haha. Some of the more noteable snubs, Drexel, Syracuse, and Air Force. Also I was 63/65 predicting who would make it. How the hell did Arkansas get in, sorry Cheryl. So, we play Friday at 7:20 pm cheer for us please. A little less dramatic our women got their March Madness assignment tonight as well. We are the 2 seed in the Dallas regional. We open play vs Oral Roberts at 10:00 pm this Saturday BOILER UP! Such exciting times!

I have chosen to do a blogger bracket contest, and I chose 12 bloggers to compete. I have emailed them and heard back from 5 but not the rest SLACKERS! haha. They are put into specific regions will pick the games in that region only. The 4 winners will then compete in the Final Four, and Championship game. I am trying to think of a prize for the winner? Any suggestions? A date with me? haha I only put out if you buy me dinner first. OK that is not really true. Anyway if you were one of the lucky ones to get an email, please respond by Wed! I am going to post your brackets here on the blog. Even if you don't want to participate write me back please so I can get someone else. A couple of you I wanted to select but couldn't find your email address, ANGEL JR!!!

First tennis practice went well today, still don't have an assistant coach though. It wasn't so bad today because I only have 11 girls out! That is the lowest number since my first year. They must all have gone out for softball. Hard to compete with a team that can win a state title. We're not going to be very good, but they are nice hard working kids. The weather was awesome but it's suppose to be cold and possible snow again Friday YUCK!!!

Hope everyone is having a good week so far. If I emailed you get me your brackets ASAP please. I will do brackets as well.

Sweating Bubbles, and my projections

Well, the Boilers bowed out of the Big Ten Tournament today against the #1 team in the country OSU. We lost by 11 but it was a very competitive game. We defeated Iowa 74-55 Friday in the quarters, now we sit and wait all day tomorrow to see if it was enough to get us in. I am a nervous wreck already, so tomorrow will be a LONG day. We have to sweat out two more meaningful games tomorrow, as Florida and UNC must win, and I am thinking my good buddy shife's team, UNC, will come thru for me. Any of you Gator fans? We are teetering right on that bubble and Friday went from euphoric high after winning what many thought was a play in game, to being nervous again after hearing other results. Virtual lock Nevada loses in the WAC tournament, and Xavier also lost DAMN THEM. Selection Sunday starts at 6pm, will the Boilers make it! I asked my magic 8ball and it said outlook good! That was after getting three straight ask again later's maybe it was waiting for conference tournaments?? The talking heads seem to like us, most anyway not CNNSI though Jackasses! ESPN's Digger, Jay Bilas, and that dude I don't know his name had us in. The most important person though to have us in is Joe Lunardi. He does Bracketology for ESPN and the guy is spot on, and he has us in. It's going to be a long day leading up to 6 tomorrow! If we are in the last bracket revealed I might have a heart attack waiting, geesh. I am going to be doing a bracket contest on here not sure how yet, but I will be asking some of you to participate. I would love for all of you that I ask to say yes, but if you don't want too, my feelings will only be slightly hurt. I will be sending out emails after the brackets, days, and times come out.

Here are my projections of who will get in on the eve of the selection, I am sure I will be way off. Feel free to chime in and tell me how right or wrong I am.
There are 19 1 bid leagues, here are the rest.
ACC 7- UNC, UVA, Maryland, Va Tech, BC, Duke, and Ga Tech
A 10 2- George Washington, Xavier
Big East 7- Georgetown, Pitt, L'ville, ND, Marquette, Syracuse, Nova
Big 10 6- OSU, Wisky, MSU, IU, Ill, and Purdue(yes I am a homer)
Big 12 4- Kansas, Texas, Texas A-M, Texas Tech
CAA 2- VCU, and Drexel
Horizon 2- Butler and Wright State
MVC 2- Creighton, Southern ILL
MWC 2- BYU, UNLV
Pac 10 5- UCLA, Washington State, Oregon, USC, Arizona
SEC 4- Florida, Kentucky, Vandy, Tennessee
WAC 2- Nevada, New Mexico State
Last 4 in, Purdue, Ga Tech, Illinois, and Drexel
Last 4 out, Kansas State, Stanford, Air Force, ODU.
#1 Seeds Ohio State, Florida, UCLA, and Wisconsin
I am sure I am way off but I hope I get 1 team right, BOILER UP!

Girls tennis season starts Monday, and I still have no assistant coach, Phoenix you free? It might not be a big deal, we had the call out meeting last week, and only 16 girls showed up. The good news is the weather is changing, it's going to be 65 for our first day WOOHOO! We can actually be outside, lets hope it stays that way. Hard to believe it's spring! Don't forget to spring forward and set your clocks tonight!!

Have a good one, and watch selection sunday 6pm CBS!

Weekend Wrap, and Oh yeah we freaking won the Big Ten Tournament tonight.

Hi everyone,
For starters sorry for lack of posts, comments, and responding to comments. I know I have been a blog slacker lately, but this is the busiest time of the year for me. Our varsity tennis season starts Monday, so it will only get busier. I will try to do better though. I am in a great mood tonight though so thought I would blog. Sorry, the first part is about sports, but if you scroll down you can read about my wild weekend with Nutz and Bekah haha.

So, tonight the Big Ten Tournament for the women wrapped up and guess what we won the thing WOOHOO! This is the 12th Big Ten tournament and our Ladies have won 6, and been in the finals 8 times. We dominate this thing, the win tonight gave us a Big Ten Tournament all time record of 25-7. We drilled Ohio State tonight 64-52 and folks it wasn't that close. We started the game on a 21-0 run sending the thousands of Purdue fans into hysterics it was great! We defeated Wisconsin on Friday, Michigan State and their whiny coach on Saturday, and to cap it off Ohio State tonight. Not to mention it's always fun to beat the Suckeyes!! We were led by our super senior Katie Gearlds who had 26 pts and was named tournament MVP, but what a great job our Junior Post player Lindsey Wysdom-Hylton did 21 points 14 boards, going against 6ft6, when she is 6ft 2. At times she made her look silly. A couple coaches have complained that this tournament is a road game for everyone but the Boilers because it's played in Indy and the Purdue fans flock to Conseco to back the Boilers, to that I say BOO-HOO! Your fans can just as easily drive to the event to back their team. Coach Versyp bought 70 tickets for the Purdue gold mine which I thought was awesome. So, it was a great evening at Conseco, always fun to watch my Boilers win. Up next the NCAA tournament with our 28-5 record with a RPI of 5 we have a small outside shot of getting a 2 seed, but more likely a 3. BOILER UP! Here is a picture of our star Katie Gearlds.

Weekend wrapup! What a fun weekend I had, I hung out with my best friend Nutz! Most of you know her, and she truly is Nutz. We headed out to Marion to hang with an old high school friend Bekah. We loved her directions to her house with colorful comments like, "look for the dirt mound" and "don't turn into the church or the construction crew might put you to work! Bekah cooked us a three course meal that was AWESOME my favorite part was the cookies. Then we played some games. I was dutch blitzed by Nutz and Bekah ACK! I need to by that game it was fun. Luckily I talked Nutz out of stealing Bekah's cat! On Saturday Nutz and I set out to raise a little hell. We started out at Hacienda(great mexican restaurant in Ktown) for her birthday dinner, and when we came out the roads had turned really bad due to some unexpected snow(I hate snow!). So we decided lets head home. Sorry nutz, but don't forget JUNE 5th! Oh yeah, we did do a driveby! No not that kind geesh.

Hope everyone is doing well, I plan on getting to your blogs tonight. Root for my Boilers this week(the mens team) Not sure if they are in yet or not. Lunardi on ESPN has us in, which is a good sign since he is like automatic on picking teams. I'll feel better if we beat the Hawkeyes in the 4/5 game Friday. By the way Tina, Congrats to VCU! Put on your dancing shoes because they are dancing baby! Were you there? Have a great week

BOILER UP!
