Olympic Fever

Just wanted to let everyone know if you want me next week you will find me plopped right in front of my tv watching every minute, and every second of the upcoming London Olympics. I love the Olympics everything about it's funny because I even watch sports I know nothing about and find myself screaming at the TV for the good old US of A! The last Olympics I found myself engrossed in fencing and how when they went to stab(no clue the actual term) they would scream as loud as they could and look at the judge. I could do that!! Oh yeah and this is for Travis and Shife, I even watched some soccer the last Olympics mostly the women but that should count for something right??? Still a boring ass game but was rooting for my country. As much as I like to watch new sports I do have my favorites.

Swimming- Who doesn't love watching this sport it's so excited especially when two swimmers are neck and neck for the gold, and of course last Olympics we had Mr Phelps break Spitz record. I always go back and forth on Michael Phelps, it bugs me he doesn't train as much as other athletes but that isn't his fault, and yes this will sound bad but I liked he got busted for pot smoking it made him human. It will be interesting to see how he does, and his head to head races with Ryan Lochte are going to be phenominal. My favorite swimmer though is Missy Franklin the young teen going to her first games. I watched most of the swimming trials and this young lady will steal the hearts of America trust me! They showed her at her High School having a going away party not only did she break dance and do the worm, she got a priest to do it with her!

Diving- I love to watch the diving but it scares the crap out of me they are going to hit their head. Does anyone remember the one Olympics where Greg Louganis(sp) did hit his head?!? Also this year in the diving a Boilermaker is representing the USA, David Boudia, and he is a threat to medal in two events. The individual Platform where he won silver at world's and synchro with his partner on the platform.

Track- Bolt was a freak of nature last Olympics, and now I read he has been beaten by his country man a few times heading into the games CRAZY!? I was disappointed though in the way USA track and field handled the womens 100 team where they told a young lady she had the third spot she took her victory lap, then later was told she tied Felix and they'd either run off or flip a coin. Wait what FLIP A COIN!?!? So for an Olympic bid you're going to flip a coin how is that right?!

Tennis- Of course I am including this, this year's Olympic tennis tournament carries more weight for one reason it's played at Wimbledon. How prestigious is that! Serena who just won Wimbledon should be favored to win singles, doubles(with sister venus) and Mixed if she plays it. However the mens side doesn't look as good for USA the only sure thing probably comes from doubles where the #1 ranked Bryan twins will play. It's neat to hear these pros who make more money than a lot of Olympic athletes combined talk of their excitement for the games. Just look at Venus Williams who is fighting auto immune disease did everything she could to comeback and qualify so much so it took all of it out of her and she had no energy for Wimbledon, but she made the team.

Gymnastics- Last but certaintly not least and quite possibly the most anticipated sport in the Olympics gymnastics. On the mens side team USA is as strong as it's ever been but I am still not sure that is good enough for gold, we still have so many glaring weaknesses especially on pommel horse and it a 3 up 3 count final that could kill them! As for the women they are a heavy favorite to win team gold but they were the last two Olympics as well. USA hasn't won a team gold since Atlanta in 96 but man beating this team is going to be hard and the reason might be vault. Only 5 gymnasts make the team this year and all 5 USA members can do a vault called the amanar which is the hardest vault in the world, when you look at other countries most have 1 or 2 but that's it. It's a huge scoring vault and that might be what sends team USA to the gold. I think they win the gold, but it will be close could also go 1-2 in the all around for the second straight Olympics.
