First off I have to say sorry for the lack of a post this week and no picks. I could sit here and say I didn't have time, or I was busy with the holiday blah blah but the truth is I forgot and when I remembered Wednesday night I didn't feel like doing it. I am very happy though as the Boilermakers defeated the hoosiers today in Bloomington to get back OUR bucket and make us bowl eligible!! First time since 2007 and all I can say is it's great to be a Boilermaker. I think the two most talked about bowls for us would be the one in Detroit or the one in Texas. If the Boilers head up north to Detroit we will probably pack our bullet proof vests and make the trip. Unfortunately, I don't think going to Texas will be a reality for us. I am proud of this team and the players for never giving up, many times they were let down by this coaching staff so it was great to see them realize a dream of playing in the post season. Boiler Up!

Welcome to rivalry week at Ross Ade Stadium, scratching your head saying wait isn't bucket week next week, well yes it is and we are scratching our heads right there with you. You see when the Big Ten added Nebraska and went to two divisions they chose to give every team a protected rival from the other division and after it broke down it came out that our new protected rival is Iowa, IOWA?? WHAT!? It makes sense when you look at the other protected match ups but it's still funny. Anyway, the Boilers could get Bowl eligible for the first time since 07 with a win on Senior Day, and although I make fun of it I would be all for a December trip to Detroit to support this team in a crappy bowl. Sweet Jesus what a weekend

First off it's GREAT to be a BOILERMAKER baby!! What a great sports weekend it was for the Boilers, and oddly enough it came on a weekend that Purdue had a big celebration planned. This weekend Mackey Arena had its re-dedication ceremony as the construction was finally 100% complete and boy oh boy AD Morgan Burke couldn't have scripted the weekend any better. The Volleyball team got things started as the #10 ranked Boilers defeated Iowa at the Boiler Box in comeback fashion taking it in 5. Friday night was the night though the mens basketball team took the newly renovated Mackey court and promptly beat the Northern Illinois Huskies by 60 points!! 96-34 behind 21 pts from Robbie Hummel in only 20 mins!! Saturday, the football team pulled out a 26-23 THRILLING OT win. After controlling almost the entire game up 20-14 with 1 min to go OSU scored on a great play by their QB. On a 4th and 3 he hurdled his center to literally avoid a sack and throw a TD bomb OSU fans going nuts, Boiler faithful thinking oh crap again!! Suddenly though like the sports gods were finally with us we blocked the extra point and went to OT. After holding OSU to a field goal we made 2 spectacular plays first was on a third and long our QB Robert Marve scrambled took contact and drug the defender 2 yards to pick it up, then on a 3rd and 12 he found Gary Bush wide open at the 1 for a first down. That play was reviewed to see if he crossed the plane, when he hadnt Marve did a QB sneak for the Boilermaker win!! Students first rushed the field then the rest of the fans did including yours truly, and to the rudest fan base in the Big Ten, OSU SUCK IT! Literally a few hours later a record crowd watched as the #10 volleyball team not only beat #2 Nebraska but they swept em and it was never close. Then rounding this amazing Purdue sports weekend the Purdue women defeated the IUPUI Jaguars 75-45 today. I am thinking maybe they should re-dedicate Mackey every weekend.

Obviously the big stories of the weekend two more title contenders went down. Boise State lost to TCU in a wild game luckily I got to see the end of it. If I were BSU I would recruit a 5 star kicker ASAP! It's hard to believe 2 straight years they might have lost a title shot by a FG. I feel bad for the school, it's fans, but especially Kellen Moore he has done everything possible to put them in position gotta feel for the kid. Also though give credit to the Horned Frogs they talked some major crap about Boise in the past they went into a tough place to play and backed it up. As for Stanford not as suprised I don't buy into the left coast teams very much.

Congrats to Clemson!! They won their division with a win over Wake. Our game was going on at the same time so I don't have details but sounds like it was a thriller.

Non Sports
Today was a WEIRD day, went out to run some errands got home around 12:45 and about 15 mins later our power went out. Not a big deal I actually crawled back into bed and slept ha! When I awoke around 3 still NO power so called the power company and they said should be back on by 4:30. Not a big deal I found time then to finish a book, and it's not too cold here today so that wasn't a problem but 4:30 comes still no power. With DST it's now getting dark at 5 this is not good, called again now they are saying 8:30, but then our house comes to live with power yay, and 5 mins later we lose it again boo!! What a tease! I chose to crawl back into bed and sleep some more, woke up refreshed and HUNGRY but instead of going anywhere put my book light on my head and started a new book, and our neighbors called. They apparently called and power company said probably nothing til 12:30 if at all. WHAT!? This is not good, I have a beauty routine I have to do to go to work tomorrow. I chose to turn my cell phone alarm on and climb back into bed with my book light and read and to my GREAT suprise the power came back on around 9:40 and knock on wood have stayed on since. Apparently a power line was blown over in this wind and a good majority of town was without power. Glad it's back but disappointed I missed Amazing Race, I will have to catch it online.

I don't have anything else, I was writing tonight because all the sleep I got today I am not tired haha. Which isn't good. Sooo have a good week

HUGE weekend for Purdue

This is a really big weekend at Purdue, the football team hosts Ohio State at noon on BTN, but the reason the weekend is so big they are re-dedicating Mackey Arena this weekend. For those that don't know our basketball venue Mackey Arena, has been undergoing a major renovation the last few years and it's finally done!! I have to say I don't think there is another arena in the country that is louder than Mackey, and I am very excited to see all the changes in person. I didn't attend the exhibition games but watched online and it looked amazing!! The festivies start tonight with the #10 ranked volleyball team playing Iowa, although not in Mackey but still, and then it begins a new basketball season. The Boilers kick off their 2011-2012 season Friday against the Northern Illinois Huskies, with the first "real" game in the new Mackey Arena. The women start their campaign on Sunday vs IUPUI. It's going to be an exciting season again and I have to say after this football season I have never been more happy to have hoops back. BOILER UP!

Duck- In the wake of all the Joe Pa wackiness this week, this becomes a strange game to pick. With Paterno getting fired last night, and the ensuing student rioting, the Huskers are walking into a real hornet’s nest here. If it wasn’t for all the craziness, I’d probably pick Nebraska in this one, but football is a game that seems to swing on emotions at times, and you’ve gotta think the Penn State players are going to be extra fired up for this one. The Nittany Lions take this one.

TCU Horned Frogs at Boise State Broncos(Duck)
Duck- Both teams have had this game circled since the schedule came out I’m sure. Boise State’s struggles last week (they only beat UNLV by 27 points! The horror…) could possibly be attributed to them looking forward to this game. Coach Petersen does a good job of not running up the score unnecessarily, but I fully expect Boise to try to win this one big anyway. It’s the only game left on their schedule that anyone outside of the BSU faithful will even count as a win since apparently they spend the rest of their time playing high school junior varsity teams, so they have to be impressive if they have any chance of clinging to their top five BCS ranking. TCU’s not the same without Andy Dalton, but their defense is still pretty good, so this could be an interesting game. You know who I’m going to pick. (Boise State 24, TCU 10)

Pathetic

Our game was in a word PATHETIC. I am not going to talk about except to say that Purdue fans who truly believe Danny Hope is the right man to lead this program need their heads examined. I think he'd make a fine assistant coach just get him off our sidelines please!!! On the bright side basketball season has officially started both our men and women played their final exhibition games today and both ROLLED to victories! I feel like every time our All American Robbie Hummel takes a charge, or has contact everyone in Mackey hold their breath. I have never met a kid that deserves an injury free season more than him. This is a HUGE week for Purdue as they will be rededicating Mackey Arena, it all kicks off when our #11 22-3 women's volleyball team take on Iowa Thursday, Men's basketball takes the floor Friday, and Sunday the women cap off the festivities. Not to mention the football team will be hosting O$U on Saturday. Going to be an exciting week.

Speaking of that game, no way would I ever use the term game of the century to describe that, and a rematch please God NO!! Congrats to LSU, but both teams had serious issues at QB, and special teams, and I am all for defense but man pass on a rematch. I find it funny that when two big ten teams play a game like ESPN is all BORING but 2 SEC games and it all changes to AMAZING game. Thankfully most national pundits agree a rematch shouldn't happen. I was rooting for Alabama for Cheryl, and Gary, I felt awful watching their kicker struggle believe me Purdue has been there and done that. I kind of had a feeling when it got to OT they were in trouble when they had to kick.

The best part of that game was the camera shot of the douchebag frat boy wearing a tie and CRYING while his girlfriend was telling him to stop!! HAHAHA first off who the hell wears a tie to a football?! Second the crying was great but the girlfriend telling him to stop even better.

I still like my pick of Boise State making the title game, OK State should lose to OU, and I think the Ducks will take Stanford. It will be whether Boise can hold off a 1 loss team or not. Why not give them a shot, they have proven time and time again all they do is win. Craig James spent 10 mins during our blowout loss making a case AGAINST Boise and in 5 secs after he totally contradicted himself. What does everyone have against Boise? It's not their fault big name schools won't play em. Yes, I was once on that wagon but Duck has made me see the light I am definitely on the Orange and Blue side now.

NON SPORTS
So, Wizard of OZ was on tv tonight, quick fact I played Mayor Munchkin in our high school production when I was in the 7th grade, and I was DAMN good thank you very much. Anyway, I had never heard that urban legend that in the movie after they find the tinman and start down the yellow brick road that you can see a munchkin swinging from a noose, because he hung himself. OK that is sad but apparently it's been proven false as it was a bird, but if you do watch old clips from the VHS tape it does look like someone has hung themsefl just saying.

I have been watching old clips of Mad TV I miss that show I think it was so much funnier than SNL. I always loved watching Miss Swan. Anyone else watch that show?

I am definitely in a Christmas mood, I have been listening to xmas music in the car, I have already bought some gifts. So, the other day when I went to get my gas and saw them decorating I got even more excited!! If it were up to me i'd skip Thanksgiving all together and go straight to Christmas :) I just love that holiday, all the decorations, the lights, it's a magical time. I love seeing my nephews on Christmas morning. Just love Christmas.

This could be a tough one

I am a little nervous for the Purdue game this weekend, no not because it will be a thriller or anything like that, mostly that we make it out of the game alive. We travel to Madison Saturday to play a PISSED OFF Wisconsin Badger team who has lost two straight games. Do I like our chances, NOPE! Here's the deal probably 3 teams in the Big Ten are pretty solid, everyone else is just so so however Wisky is one of those solid teams, and they are almost unbeatable at home. I have been contemplating who to take, will this be the first time in my blog picking history I go against my Boilers???

First off I didn't mean to short change Topolk from last week, but I didn't want to have any sports related stuff on that post about my grandma, I felt like it needed to stand alone. This week I have a twist as not 1 but 2 guest pickers will be playing, and they are husband and wife and two of my ALL time favorite blog people. Of course I am speaking of Alabama's biggest fans Cheryl and Gary. I'd suggest taking a look at their blogs but they have both moved to other social media, but you could always read their archives. This is a HUGE week for them as Alabama who is #2 takes on #1 LSU at home, I can't even imagine how excited they must be. Alright onto the picks, Illinois, Clemson, Georgia Tech, and the Vikings are all off. Oh before that I have a message from Cheryl, and apparently there is a steak dinner with margarita bet on this for these two haha.
Greetings from Alabama, where we are in the midst of preparation for the Game of the Century, the Battle of Armageddon, or whatever other insane name you wanna give this game. Gary and I will be AT the game, and we are so excited!! I hope that it lives up to all the hype, but also that Bama wins by at least a touchdown (because I'm usually hiding underneath my seat when it goes down to the wire).
