Happy Halloween Everyone!

Hi guys
Won't be around much the next couple of days, so I thought I would take this time to say Happy Halloween to all of you. Have a fun and safe Halloween, and please nobody TP or egg my house!! Kristen and I cohosted a party last night after the big thud heard around West Lafayette. Yes, that big thud was the Purdue offense again. It was a fun party though and helped erase the memory of a bad game! Kayla easily kicked my butt in the predictions, I bow down to you Miss Kayla!

Have a great Halloween, anyone got big plans? What costumes are you all going as, yourselves, because that would be pretty scary haha!! My favorite thing about Halloween is all the scary movies all the networks show. So far today I have watched Child's Play, and Children of the Corn. Although the best Horror movie of all time in my opinion, is Halloween! I love scary movies.

Go Go BOILERS Go

Ahh yes, it's Friday so we all know what that means, another Purdue Friday Fire Up Post! This week the Boilermakers take on the Penn State Nittany Lions at Ross Ade Stadium at noon. It's Boilermaker Black Out meaning we are going to blackout the stadium, so I have my black already to go! Purdue is coming off a 24-3 game vs. Wisconsin last week. In a weird twist the defense played well enough to win last week, but the offense let us down failing to score a touchdown. It will be a great game tomorrow pitting two of the most underachieving teams in the country against one another, who will win, lets take a look at the match ups shall we?

This is a huge game for both teams, as both are still trying to get bowl eligible and jockey for a better bowl position. The winner might get the inside track for the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio, Texas. The big question going in is will the defense be able to play as well or better as it did last week. If that happens things will bode well for the Boilers. The first couple of series vs Wisky last week ended in a 3 and out for Bucky Badger so that was a good sign. Who would have thought one of the nations best offenses would be shut down, it was sad really. Our biggest problem is the red zone, we don't do well inside the redzone. Last week, we would drive the ball down and then one of these things would occur, missed field goal, stopped ourselves, or punt. The most mind boggling was punting on a 4th and 1 from like the 24, still scratching my head. I do believe our offense will work out the kinks though, and most of Ross Ade will be happy.

Lets take a look at some predictions with how I think some of my favorite bloggers teams will do. This weeks guest picker is the lovely and talented Blazer fan herself Kayla! She has not yet sent me back her picks, so I will update this post as soon as I get them from her. On with the predictions. Yay, Kayla's picks are in!

Pillow Fight Of The Week
Michigan State vs Indiana- First off must give some credit here. After the late game collapse to Fighting Fat Charlies, MSU's season has just spiraled downhill big time. It looked to hit rock bottom last week, trailing Northwestern 38-3 in the 3rd quarter. Then out of nowhere Sparty turned it around scoring 37 straight points stunning the wildcat faithul and getting the win. Now they take on the hoosiers, and trust me folks this game could be ugly, two bad teams. Oddly enough it has bowl implications, as the winner probably goes, the loser won't. Look for MSU to score early, often, and all day on IU.
Phats- MICHIGAN STATE 55 indiana 22
Kayla- MICHIGAN STATE 40 indiana 21 I don't think it will be quite as much of a high scoring game but who knows
EDIT FINAL SCORE INDIANA 46 michigan state 21

Big Game of the Week-
Florida vs Georgia- Ahh yes the worlds largest cocktail party. This one could get really ugly, early. I have always been a Gator fan, and I liked them even more when they hired Urban. UGA on the other hand has "dawged" the boilers a couple of times, so not so much a fan. UGA has really struggled beating teams it should clobber, and Florida has looked pretty good, I think the dawgs are gator bait Saturday.
Phats- FLORIDA 42 georgia 31
Kayla- FLORIDA 35 georgia 24- I am a gators fan! What else can I say.
EDIT FINAL SCORE FLORIDA 21 georgia 14
Phats= WOOHOO

Philadelphia vs Jacksonville- For Shannon, and Ben. A heartbreaking loss for the Eagles this past weekend, but one hell of a kick a 62 yarder WOW! Trust me Shannon the news this weekend will be much better, the eagles will have no problem and roll.
Phats- PHILADELPHIA 42 jacksonville 28
Kayla- PHILADELPHIA 28 jacksonville 17
EDIT FINAL SCORE JACKSONVILLE 13 philadelphia 6(sorry shannon)
Phats= D'oh

Arizona State vs Washington- For Egan. Have to admit I was impressed with UW last week in a thrilling OT loss to Cal. They almost had the come from behind miracle win, but alas they lost. This week is a tough one, because ASU's coach is really on the hot seat and needs this one to help keep his job. I like ASU to keep it close, but UW to pull it out in an OT Thriller
Phats- WASHINGTON 42 arizona state 35 ot
Kayla- WASHINGTON 42 arizona state 38, I think it's going to be a real ugly fight for this win. Hope you're happy with the outcome, Egan
EDIT FINAL SCORE ARIZONA STATE 26 washington 23 OT
Phats= D'oh(I got the ot part right!)
Kayla= D'oh

Auburn vs Mississippi- For LeeAnn and Pissy- I have to admit I don't like Auburn, sorry ladies. However that doesn't mean much here because I am smart enough to pick them. The Tigers should have no problems rolling over the rebels, this one gets out of hand early, WAR EAGLE
Phats- AUBURN 52 ole miss 14
Kayla- AUBURN 41 ole miss 10. It pains me to say it but Auburn will be all over Ole Miss like nobody's business! I can only hope they don't score this well... Sorry diehard Bama, and UAB fan here :)
EDIT FINAL SCORE AUBURN 23 ole miss 17
Phats= WOOHOO
Kayla= WOOHOO

Duke vs Vanderbilt- For David. So close last week were the Blue Devils to beating a depleted Miami team, unfortunately that's probably the only reason it was close. Vandy is not a world beater, but they won't need to be to beat Duke. Take heart Devil fans it's almost basketball season.
Phats- VANDERBILT 33 duke 10
Kayla- VANDERBILT 21 duke 10, Vandy will have its way with Duke early in the game, but will have trouble in the second half.
EDIT FINAL SCORE VANDERBILT 45 duke 28

Ohio vs Kent State- For Design Goddess. Ahh Finally the Golden Flashes have to play a somewhat good team in their conference. I believe Ohio is Skii's team, right DG? This will be an interesting game, and I think the Bobcats will really test KSU in this one. I am still not a believer in the Golden Flashes, but a win here would help me turn the corner. Golden Flashes pull this one off in style, coming from behind
Phats- KENT STATE 42 ohio 41
Kayla- OHIO 34 kent state 24, Phats this is the only one so far I disagree with. Ohio will rule!(dg does she get humble pie? haha)
EDIT FINAL SCORE OHIO 17 kent state 7
Phats= D'oh
Kayla= WOOHOO

Idaho vs Hawaii- For Shife. The Vandals have had a great season, but back to back tough games kind of bring them down to earth a little. I expect the Bows to rough up Idaho a little bit their offense is a beast. It worries me for when we play them! Hawaii will roll over Idaho, sorry Shife. Still plenty of chances to make a bowl game for Idaho.
Phats-HAWAII 60 idaho 21
Kayla-HAWAII 42 idaho 7, Who knows?? This is a wild guess for me
EDIT FINAL SCORE HAWAII 68 idaho 10
Phats= WOOHOO

Alabama vs Florida International- For Cheryl and Gary. First off, I think Alabama's coach is a pansy for coming out and accusing Smokey the UT coonhound dog of biting one of his players who in his words FELL ON HIM. Umm if I am a dog and you fall on me I am going to bite you too. The poor pooch! Alright to the prediction, lets hope the only fight the golden panthers bring to this match up will be their spirit. Why Bama is playing this team I have no idea, but it won't matter they will win this easy, rolling to a win. ROLL TIDE!
Phats- ALABAMA 41 florida international 0
Kayla- ALABAMA 33 florida international 3, If the Tide doesn't pull this one off, I am becoming a Tiger fan! Just kidding, I could never do that ROLL TIDE.
EDIT FINAL SCORE ALABAMA 38 fiu 3
Phats= WOOHOO
Kayla= WOOHOO(wow Kayla that was close!!)

Texas vs Texas Tech- For Cheryl and Gary(Texas), Jef, and Fuzz(TECH) Oh Oh Oh a blogger grudge match here. Texas was incredibly lucky to get the win last week over the huskers. I have to say too I am not a fan of the longhorns, not really sure why. I think this will not only be a good game, but an exciting game possibly coming down to the wire. I almost made it the big game of the week, but afterall it is the Big 12! I think Red Raider Nation will be sent into pandemonium after a thrilling overtime win over the horns.
Phats- TEXAS TECH 35 texas 28 OT
Kayla- Texas 21 texas tech 17, I disagree Phats I think Texas will pull of the win. It will be a hard won game however.
EDIT FINAL SCORE TEXAS 35 texas tech 31
Phats= D'oh
Kayla= WOOHOO

Purdue vs Penn State- Will the defense continue it's good play, will the offense wake up and be able to be productive in the red zone. Those will be keys, this PSU team is good but not great like teams in the past. We have played similar teams, but you can't really compare scores in college football. I think this will be a good game for a half, and then Purdue will surprise everyone and blow it open in the third. Painter goes for big numbers, and the defense gets better as the game goes on, Boilers send Joe"Grand"Pa and his Nitts home with a loss.

Kayla- PURDUE 28 penn state 10, BOILER UP! I do not like Penn State in the least, so I hope the score is even a wider margin for the Boilermakers.

So, what's your hobby?

Ahh the end of another weekend, and it was a good weekend! Although Purdue lost, the rest the weekend was very nice. Something I found comical, I saw a person dressed as a slice of pizza, eating a slice of pizza at the game saturday. Lets see it included going to the Purdue game, tailgating which of course includes cornhole baby, dinner at my favorite mexican restaurant, meeting up with some old friends, and last but certainly not least Kristen and I doing the Cha Cha Slide. Can you believe they still play that?! I would also like to thank Shannon for being the guest picker, you did awesome, and I am sorry about the Eagles, but man a 62 yd field goal is pretty awesome. I have selected the guest picker for this week, and I will be getting with them midweek on the games. On to the new post!

I think you'll all be happy to hear this post has nothing to do with sports. Instead I thought I would focus on one of my all time favorite things to do. No, not that geesh get your minds out of the gutter, although I do enjoy that I just don't blog about it. I am talking about one of my favorite hobby's, reading. I love to read, I am a big bookworm, go ahead make fun if you must. I have recommened some books for some of you to check out, so I thought I would write about that. I hope this isn't too boring.

Ever since I can remember I have loved to read. I put this all on my mother as when I was a child she would always read to my sister and I, and now we both love to read. I was one of those kids in elementary that loved getting the assignment of a book report, and always had a tough time picking just one book. I remember my very first "big" book I read was the BoxCar children when I was in the first grade. I was actually honored for reading in the 5th grade as I read all 30 hoosier nominee books to me it was no big deal, to the teacher it was evidently. I remember reading a couple of the classics for the first time thru school reading, those being To Kill a Mockingbird, and The Outsiders. If you haven't read To Kill a Mockingbird what the hell is wrong with you? That is an American classic, and if you truly haven't read it I suggest you pick up a copy and get lost with Atticus Finch. A side note Demi Moore named her little kid after one of the characters, Scout. Of course some of you might know The Outsiders better from the movie which was the start for such up and comers as, Tom Cruise, Rob Lowe, Patrick Swayzee, Ralph Macchio, C Thomas Howell, and Emilo Estevez. I read this in the 8th grade for English class and literally could not put it down. I mean who can go wrong with characters named Two Bit, Ponyboy, and Soda Pop, and concludes with a big rumble! It's weird I always rooted for the Soc's and the Greasers were the main characters haha.

In college I was lucky to take some classes that had some very good required reading. At the time I thought no thanks, but I am glad I did read them. For one of my history classes I was required to read Rumor of War by Phillip Caputo. An insiders look at the Vietnam War, and some stories of what happens when court marshalled. It was an excellent read, and one book I didn't sell back. Another was the classic "on the road" by Kerouac. I remember reading this in my dorm room, I read it in one sitting because I could not put it down. Who doesn't envision themself traveling cross country at least once? The best book though that I found thru required reading had to be Penrod by Booth Tarkington, from Indiana. This book is so good, and one I highly recommend. It chronicles the struggles of a troublesome little kid, kind of like a dennis the menace as he adapts to his role in life. This is a book I have probably read oh at least 20 times now, and worth a look at.

Pretty much now since I am out of school I read for the enjoyment of it. I have found some great authors, and I have a bookshelf full of books I have yet to read. Some of my favorite authors include Stephen King, Dean Koontz, James Patterson, Tammy Hoag, Lisa Gardner. It's funny because had I written this post about 2 yrs ago I would have easily said that my favorite author was Stephen King, but it has changed since then. My sister turned me onto a new author that she really likes, and sent me a shopping bag full of about 30 books by this author. The author is Iris Johansen, and she has me totally hooked. Her books are great, they are what I like in that it's mystery, horror, etc. and one thing I really like is she keeps characters around for other books. Like when I am done reading something I still want to know more about the lives of the characters I just read about, and she includes them alot of times in her new books. The sign of a good book however comes in two parts. One you can't put it down, and two it's a good fast read, and her books fit both of those. So, to leave you here are some of my favorites by some of the authors mentioned, if you're a bookworm like me give em a try.

My favorite King books,
Bag of Bones, Misery, The Shining, Salem's Lot
My all time favorit King book- The Long Walk- This is a fast page turner, and a book I guarentee you won't be able to put down because you will want to know what happens next. I will warn you I told my sister to read this book, and she didn't like it all, but she couldn't put it down. I however loved it!

My favorite Koontz books
Hideaway, Funhouse, Sole Survivor, Shattered, Whispers, Watchers, by the light of the moon
My all time favorite- Strangers- This book was VERY good and had me hooked from the beginning. To me this is the best Koontz book I have read so far.

My favorite Patterson books
4 blinde mice, The Lake House, The beach House, Mary Mary(I am reading now), Jack and Jill, Pop goes the weasel
If I have to pick a favorite I'd say Violets are blue, although lake house is VERY good as well. it's part of the Alex Cross series, and if you have ever read or seen kiss the girls, or along came a spider you know who I am talking about. I love Patterson books, might be my second favorite author right now.

My favorite Johansen books
All her books are great. I promise if you like to read these types(king, koontz, etc) you need to try her and you will be hooked. Some of my favorites include, Countdown, On the Run, Fatal Tide, Final Target, Blind Alley, Dead Aim, and Killer Dreams.
My personal favorites are any of these. I did really like Countdown, but that is in a series, and Final Target was also really good.

So there you have it, a hobby of mine. What are your favorite things to do in your spare time? Come on don't be shy share with me. Everyone have a great week.

Song on the blog is Vince Gill's If you ever have forever in mind.

Go Boilers Go!

Hey Kids
Welcome again to another Friday Fire Up for an exciting weekend of college football. This weekend the Mighty Boilers will take on those Pesky Badgers from Wisconsin at Ross Ade Stadium carrying a noon kickoff. I think Dorothy said it best, "there's no place like home" and the Boilers will be glad to be in the friendly confines of Ross Ade Stadium tomorrow after their 3 game road trip. Last time out we defeated the lowly Northwestern Mildcats 31-10, and it wasn't that close. It was a big win in that it got us closer to bowl eligibilty, and a game we couldn't afford to lose. There were big concerns going into the game, one would our defense be able to stop a horrible offense, and how would not having Lymon who was out injured hurt our offense. The answers the defense played their best game of the year limiting NU to 200 yards of total offense, and the other receivers stepped up including Greg Orton who had a career day with 144 yards receiving. Tomorrow's game is a chance to make a statement that we're back, and that we belong in the discussion for the Big Ten title. We play two straight at home, and it would be absolutely huge to upset the Badgers tomorrow. It would be an upset since we are a 6 pt dog going into the game. Can't wait to travel to West Lafayette tomorrow and root on my Boilers! Onto blogger predictions, Design Goddess' Golden Flashes are off this week so no humble pie for me!

Before we get started on the predictions I would like to welcome my guest picker for this week none other then the Philly Eagles Fanatic herself, miss Shannon. Here is a quick message from Shannon, "Well first of all I would like to thank you for offering me this great honor, I know you don't offer it to everyone and I am beside myself that I was the lucky pick this week to cast my vote on the football front. I however, do not follow college football just the NFL. I see that there is only one NFL game in the group...so I think my vote would be unfair to the other teams because it would honestly be just a guess, but here it goes(Please nobody hate me, remember I bruise easily). Thanks Shannon, you are awesome for doing this!

Alright lets get it started first game
Big game of the week.
Instead of doing the pillow fight this week, I mean seriously I can't do that with IU playing OSU. I thought i'd do the biggest game in my opinion in the country. For that game I chose Georgia Tech vs Clemson. A couple reasons, one the winner has a clear path to the ACC title game, and two my cousins are DIEHARD tech fans. This game is being played at Death Valley always a tough place to play and win. I have faith though Jackets take another step towards the ACC title. STING EM
GEORGIA TECH 35 clemson 28
Shannon says- It's Georgia Tech, my Momma lives in Georgia so I will say 31-14 GEORGIA TECH
EDIT FINAL SCORE CLEMSON 31 georgia tech 7

Washington vs California- For Egan. 2 bad breaks this week my friend Egan, 1 you lose your starting QB, 2 you play a red hot Cal team. The bears might have the ugliest uniforms(next to Oregon) in college football, but UW's players will only be seeing the back of them. Cal rolls.
CALIFORNIA 55 washington 14
Shannon says- I say California wins this one 35-28 Cali :)
EDIT FINAL SCORE CALIFORNIA 31 washington 24 OT(hell of an effort egan)

UAB vs Marshall- For Kayla. I was tempted to do this as the pillow fight of the week, but didn't want to ruffle Kayla's feathers. Marshall used to be the midmajor darling in the days of Moss, and Pennington, but they are no more. I don't know too much about the thundering herd, but I did see them play someone and it wasn't pretty. I think UAB pulls out of its funk and gets the win in come from behind fashion. GO BIG GREEN
UAB 24 marshall 21
Shannon Says- They are naming schools after people now? Interesting... Umm I will go with UAB just because it's a three letter word *Snork* 21-10 UAB
EDIT FINAL SCORE MARSHALL 31 uab 24

Miami Fla vs Duke- For David. Might be the only time in my life I can remember cheering for Duke football. I am really disappointed in the Miami administration for the punishments they agreed to after the footbrawl last week with FIU. 1 game suspensions for kicking players while they were already down, and keep in mind cleats were on those shoes. I will never in my life root for Miami after that ugly display of sportsmanship, if it means losing a game in the predictions so be it
DUKE 21 miami 0
Shannon says- I say Duke because I have heard of this team before, and that's the only reason honestly. 42-28 DUKE
EDIT FINAL SCORE MIAMI 20 duke 15(didn't think i'd get this right but wow it was close!)
Phats= D'oh
Shannon = D'oh

Auburn vs. Tulane- For LeeAnn and Pissy. I am not exactly sure why Auburn is playing the Green Wave, but I will predict it. After the first BCS standings the Tigers are actually sitting pretty, even in 4th. They have 1 loss and are ahead of a couple undefeateds, and are a Notre Dame upset and loser of UM/OSU game away from the national title game. This one won't be pretty and won't be close, Tigers roll WAR EAGLE!
AUBURN 55 tulane 7
Shannon Says- Hmmm is this English? I have never heard of these teams lol sowwy umm I say Auburn takes it 24-10 AUBURN
EDIT FINAL SCORE AUBURN 38 tulane 13
Phats= WOOHOO
Shannon= WOOHOO

Idaho vs Boise State-For Shife. Ahh yes the new media darling, Boise State, or is that BSC STATE. The only midmajor team that has any shot of crashing the BCS party can't afford to lose a game. Shife your Vandals have been playing great, and I believe you told me these two teams are big rivals. If I had the balls I would take the Vandals in a stunning upset, but I have to go with the fighting smurfs(their field is blue!) Boise takes it.
BOISE STATE 42 idaho 28
Shannon Says- Hmm I have to go with Idaho, they have great potatoes. 35-14 IDAHOOO
EDIT FINAL SCORE BOISE STATE 42 idaho 26(great showing though shife, it was close)
Phats= WOOHOO(2 pts off the exact score!)
Shannon = D'oh

Texas Tech vs Iowa State- For Jef and Fuzz. The Red Raiders are bit of an enigma. Not sure what you're going to get each time out. ISU has played some good football this year and this game will not be easy. I like Tech though to bounce back and get the W, in a squeaker
TEXAS TECH 28 iowa state 21 OT
Shannon Says- This is sooooo Iowa State (I have no idea really) but ya, 35-7 IOWA STATE
EDIT FINAL SCORE TEXAS TECH 42 iowa state 27
Phats= WOOHOOO
Shannon= D'oh

Texas vs Nebraska- For Cheryl and Gary. This is actually a good match up, and could have been the game of the week had it not been in the Big 12, a pretty lousy football conference this year. I smell upset in this one, the Huskers didn't play USC bad, and have played really well since. They had their lucky game sneaking one out vs Rock Chalk Jayhawk. Texas really hasn't had to play anyone since losing to OSU, I mean OU is not over the top great, I think Nebraska is better. Nebraska pulls a mild upset ending any chances for a Hook Em Horns repeat title.
Nebraska 21 texas 10
Shannon Says- Nebraska takes it 21-14 NEBRASKA.
EDIT FINAL SCORE TEXAS 22 nebraska 20
Phats= D'oh(damn fumble)

Alabama vs Tennessee- For Cheryl and Gary. How in the world did I leave out the tide?! Sorry guys, I wrote this very fast last night as I wanted to go to sleep. Luckily I have time here at work, and blogger finally agreed to work for me here. This actually could turn out being a HUGE game for the crimson tide, a big win over the vols might just be what the doctor ordered. I know just watching on tv I get sick of hearing Rocky Top, and so hopefully you bama fans won't hear it much. Unfortunately I think UT might be just a little too much for the Tide Sat.
UT 28 alabama 14
EDIT FINAL SCORE Tennessee 16 alabama 13 (sorry cheryl and gary wish I were wrong)
Phats- WOOHOO

Philadelphia vs Tampa Bay- for Shannon DUH, and Ben Apparently! Well, after last week I can finally get back to rooting for the eagles, afterall shannon and I did make a deal. Last week was tough because even if I didn't know Shannon I would root for the eagles because I like Donovan. However last week they played my boy Drew, I know Drew personally and could never pick against him. This week they will play a Tampa team that hasn't looked good at all, but still you any team can win any given day in the NFL, but it won't happen here, Eagles back on the winning track
EAGLES 42 bucs 21
Shannon Says- Philadelphia better win or I will be a pissed off sick woman... GO BIRDS! Fly Eagles Fly score a touchdown 1 2 3 fly Eagles Fly on the road to victory!! E-A-G-L-E-S....... EAGLES!! 35-14 EAGLES! (i was tempted to put bucs after the score but i think she let us know who she is rooting for right? haha :)
EDIT FINAL SCORE Bucs 23 eagles 21

PURDUE vs wisky- This is going to be a tough game for Purdue, Wisconsin has one loss and it was a close one to Michigan at Michigan. Most Boiler fans believe next weeks game is more winnable, but don't be surprised if we sneak up on the Badgers. We owe them one from two years ago, when 60,000+ all cried at the same time over the fumble heard round the big ten. In 2004 we were 5-0, #5 in the nation, gameday was at our game with Wisky, Corso had put on Pete's head. We had the game won and trying to kill the clock our QB fumbled, a Badger picked it up and scored the game winning TD. We owe them one, and hopefully we catch them at the right time. They are due for a bad game, and lets hope this it and we get some Badger Stew. What do you say Shannon?
Shannon Says- I think Purdue will win 28-14 (Phats you still owe me 20$)

Has it really been that long?

Hey guys,
First off very sorry about my unexplained absence over the last week, and in a minute I will touch on that more. However, I would first like to say a BIG thanks to everyone who left comments and sent emails that were worried about me. That was very much appreciated you guys are awesome. As soon as I finish this post I am off to get caught up on all your blogs. Everything is fine, I was dealing was some personal issues that had nothing to do with Blog or Bloggers, so I felt like keeping it off blog was best. Couple that with the fact I had a very busy week and you get Phats week from hell. I did find comic relief that some of you thought I had chosen to go on strike again because Purdue lost, believe me I wish that were the reason I wasn't around! If I ever go on a strike for that reason again you all will know it haha. Real quickly here I want to give a shout out to my best friend Jenn. I pretty much sent her a rant email about everything going on, because I had nobody else I could talk too. I emailed because I knew she'd be at work and would get it right away. Anyway not 5 minutes after I hit send, she called and was totally there for me that's what a best friend's for, thanks Jenn you rock man!

With so much going on I didn't get to do my Friday preview :( Sorry about that. Lets catch ya up to speed though. Talk about a must win game for my Boilermakers, we traveled to Evanston, ILL today to take on the Northwestern Wildcats at Ryan Field. Yours truly was in attendance, did anyone see me on tv?? After a sluggish start we totally took control of the game caging the wildcats winning 31-10 running our record to 5-2. Two more wins and we go bowling baby! One of the best hits of the day didn't occur during the game, it happened on the sidelines. Willy the Wildcat tried to steal our flag, and Purdue Pete was having none of that and got a running start and basically pushed the feline into next week, toppling the helpless kitty over. It was hysterical getting a big roar from the Purdue faithful. Was a great game, great weather, Painter throwing for over 400 yards again, and the defense actually played well. The road trip was a success, although getting up at 5am I am exhausted, so my bed is calling me SOON! Next up a tough one vs the Wisky Badgers at Ross Ade, BOILER UP!

Lets take a look at how some of my favorite bloggers teams did.
Oregon State 27 Washington 17- For Egan. Big step backwards today for UW, this was a surprise, UW had been playing really well. Had they learned how to use the clock they might have stunned the college football world last week, and now to get beat to the beavers, still scratching my head?!

Florida State 51 Duke 24- For David. Wow, I betcha Duke fans will take this loss, putting up 24 pts on the noles not bad, not bad at all. Midnight Madness has come and gone I am sure the Crazies are ready to go.

Rice 34 UAB 33- For Kayla. Ouch this one has to hurt a bit Kayla, what happened? I didn't see this game so I have no idea if the Owls punched one in late or not, but this is a tough loss for the Blazers.

Auburn 27 Florida 17- For Lee ann. This one pissed me off, I like the Gators. Any coach that flips off the Irish has me for a fan. Tough loss for the Gators who probably fall out of the national title picture.

Alabama 26 Ole Miss 23 OT- for Cheryl and Gary. Wow a nailbiter! This would have been a bad loss, but good teams find ways to pull out games when playing bad. I didn't see this game but looks like it was exciting!

Texas 63 Baylor 31- For CHERYL and gary- See Cheryl I even put you first! Hook em horns still riding high, and right back into the national title picture. They better root for UM to take out OSU, because if they get the rematch, OSU will manhandle them again.

Colorado 30 Texas Tech 6- For Fuzz, and Jef. Another head scratcher was shocked after reading this score, what the hell happened? The Buffs are REALLY bad, was this just a hangover game or what? TT seems to be like Jekyll and Hyde, never know which personality shows up.

Idaho 24 La Tech 14- For Shife. Don't look now but here come the vandals! Two games away from bowl eligibility, amazing! I hope they keep it rolling shife my friend.

Kent State 40 Toledo 14- For Design Goddess- Holy Toledo the Golden Flashes are rolling. it's weird though I am still not really a FIRM believer yet. Call me skeptical, but a close win over the worst team in the country has me doubting the Flashes. I will reserve judgement til they play someone good in the MAC, until then enjoy the ride DG! :)

Philadelphia Eagles vs New Orleans Saints- For Shannon. This will be played sunday, and Shannon cover your eyes. A big win over the cowgirls last week, but this will end in heartache for the Eagles fans. Why? My boy Drew Brees will slice and dice the Eagles all day and the Saints pull out a close one. Sorry Shannon, Drew's a Boiler!
Saints 35 Eagles 21

PURDUE 31 northwestern 10- Touched on this already but the Boilers rolled today over the Mildcats. Purdue rolled to over 500 yards total offense, while holding NU to 200. Nice days work from the Boilers who get back on the winning track. I have to say I have been to Northwestern a couple times and their campus is beautiful, right on the lake. It's just a shame they can't get more students to come to the games.

Anybody see the Miami/Fla International game? Worst display of sportsmanship I have seen since Clemson/South Carolina. After taunting FIU, a bench clearing brawl broke out. Players were hitting other players with helmets, kicking people who were down, and the real kicker an injured FIU player rushed the field and started to beat on a Miami player with his crutch. A true embarrassment for the game, and they should have called it off then and there.
That's it for another college football Saturday!

It looks like I am back, I am sure you're all happy right? Steph, I came by your place today after the game to challenge you to a DDR dance off!! However, you must have known I was coming because you didn't answer the door, means one thing CHICKEN! haha. Thanks again everyone for all the nice comments and emails it meant a lot.

Phats
PS they played this song ALL day at the stadium today, and it's been in my head ever since, so now it's in yours. Also there is no better place to eat after a game then Arnie's Meet you at Arnies!

BTFU!

Here we go BOILERS here we go!

First off, the multiple posts were an accident sorry. I knew that was going to happen, here is the skinny, one night when Blogger was being pissy(imagine blogger not working?) I tried to post that and it wasn't loading and kept telling me to try again, and therefore it loaded 5 times. However I did that last week, so why it loaded today I am not sure. Sorry :) On to the Friday Fire Up!

Last week we suffered our first loss of the season to Fat "garbage yards" Charlie and his fighting irish. It was though a positive game for us for the most part, with the score being 35-21. I am not one to be happy with moral victories however I wasn't upset over this loss, and if you know me that is big. Usually people can't talk to me for about an hour after a loss, if it's a big game more like 2 hrs. We outgained the ND offense, our QB threw for more yards then that pussy Brady Quinn, and our defense limited them to 1 score and 88 yards in the second half, that my friends is progress! Now we turn our attention back to big ten play as we travel to Iowa City to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes and their pink locker room.

This might actually be a great week to play the Hawks as they are coming off a very disappointing game vs THE Ohio State Buckeyes, getting blown out at home with gameday there. I am hoping what will happen is that Iowa will still be suffering from a buckeye hangover and we will be able to go in there and steal one. It's never easy to play at Kinnick Stadium, the fans are right on top of the sidelines and they let you know how much they think you suck. They also try to get a psychological edge as they painted everything in the opponent locker room pink, interesting eh? It was good we played at ND last week because we will be used to crowd noise now. If we can block that out we'll be in good shape. The game will most likely be won on the defensive side of the ball, can our improving defense stop Drew Tate and his offense, and can the Iowa defense slow down Curtis Painter and all our offensive weapons. I think Iowa will try to play a clock control offense and stick to their running game. Our secondary is our biggest weakness, and the less passes thrown the better chance we have of stopping them. Here is hoping our offense and our defense click on the same page we need this game to go to 5-1(4-1) and get one step closer to bowl eligibility. This has been a long week for Phats, being homecoming week, dealing with all the craziness that goes with it, and finding costumes to wear for the dress up days, so I would like nothing more then a big Purdue win!

This week's guest picker is making her triumphant return to the blogosphere, it's none other then Nuttina, AKA Nutz AKA Nutz on a roll AKA Katina Cloud! Welcome back Nutz! If any of you take offense to her scores, I will be glad to give out her address so you can egg and TP her house. On to the predictions!

Pillow Fight Of The Week
Illinois vs Indiana- Wow, what a big win for the Illini last week, talk about a hangover for MSU. Anyone see the flagplant at the end of the game by Illinois? Now, maybe it's just me, but when you have been the doormat of the big ten for the last two years, you might wanna think twice about planting your flag in the opponents 50. Won't be a problem here, they will squeak by one of the worst IU teams I have ever seen, and that is saying ALOT they have had some BAD teams
ILLINOIS 28 indiana 21
Nutz- INDIANA 17 illinois 9

Eagles vs Cowboys- For Gary and Shannon. Interesting game here, and how to pick it. Do I go with the Eagles to romp over the team Shannon calls the Cowgirls, or go with Gary and take the Cowboys over the chickens?? So many subplots in this game, the whole TO/McNabb drama blah blah, it will be played out on the field, and the Eagles get the win, sorry Gary.
EAGLES 42 cowboys 21
Nutz- Go Eagles, 17-0

Washington vs Southern Cal- For Egan. Yikes total mismatch this game will be. UW has had a nice season up to this point but really hasn't played anyone yet. USC needs to keep winning and winning big to continue to hover around that #2 ranking. Watch USC roll over UW with no problems
USC 52 washington 20
Nutz- USC 47 uw 7

Auburn vs Arkansas- For Leeann, war eagle soars? Not so fast my friend as Mr Corso would say. Auburn looked bad against the gamecocks last week, and Arkansas is never an easy team to play especially with the nutt at the helm. I think this game will be a lot closer then people think, but Auburn avoids the upset again, watch out for the iron bowl, Bama may just ruin your national title dreams though.
AUBURN 28 arkansas 24
Nutz- AUBURN 40 arkansas 17

Texas vs Oklahoma- For Gary. Ahh yes the most overhyped rivalry in the country sorry Gary. This game has been competitive like once right? This game at times has not been pretty for Texas, but this year will be different, although OU has recovered from the Oregon(they got hosed greatly btw) they will not be able to hang with Texas. Texas gets chunks of yardage but won't be able to score often, OU makes the score look closer then it is. It's nice to see Texas finally play a real team for a change gary.
TEXAS 10 oklahoma 3(these games are always low scoring and boring)
Nutz- Game cancelled due to a heavy stampede of longhorns(haha nutz you rock!)

Idaho vs New Mexico State- For Shife. Idaho has been on a nice roll as of late, rolling towards a possible bowl game, but wait they hit a screeching halt this week. The vandals will not have any answers for NMSU on Saturday and go down swinging, ending their nice little win streak sorry shife!
NEW MEXICO STATE 45 idaho 21
Nutz- IDAHO 17 new mexico state 0 GO IDAHO!

UAB vs Memphis- For Kayla. A big win for the Blazers got them back on track last week, and another big conference showdown this week with the Tigers. I got to see a little of the tigers on tv last week, they didn't look good. Looking at how the Blazers have fared against a very tough schedule I think they will be fine in this game, infact I see a romp! GO BIG GREEN!
UAB 42 memphis 14
Nutz- UAB 37 memphis 8

Missouri vs Texas Tech- For Jef and Fuzz. Ahh what a win for the red raiders last week, winning one pretty much as time expired on the road. This week right back at it against a very tough Mizzou team, who I think are pretenders not contenders and will be exposed this Sat by the Red Raiders and their crazy nutball of a coach(pirates!?). Red Raiders pull out another thriller. You're lucky it's football, I would never pick that asswipe Bobby Knight to win anything.
TEXAS TECH 42 missouri 35 OT
Nutz- MO is 5-0 so far this season!! I love MO so they will kick Texas Tech Ass
MIZZOURI 37 texas tech 0 :)

Duke vs Alabama- For David, Cheryl, and Gary- Cheryl and Gary you all really did schedule the girl scouts!? No Chance for Duke in this one unless Bama doesn't show up, what do you think the odds are that happens? If it were played 5 v 5 at Cameron with a roundball and hoop duke would be all over this. This will not pretty don't let small children watch. The Tide will ROLL!
ALABAMA 60 duke 3
Nutz- DUKE 47 alabama 7 (still scratching my head?!) haha

Kent State vs Temple- For Design Goddess. No offense but this nearly became the pillow fight of the week, you're lucky IU sucks. Temple might be the worst Division 1 Football team in the country. Even if KSU were bad they'd win this, and I think KSU might be a decent MAC team. This should get ugly early, and one for the subs to get extended minutes. Golden Flashes keep it rolling.
KENT STATE 52 temple 14
Nutz- KENT STATE 55 temple 8

Finally the most important one. Yes, we're coming off a loss and the last two years the first loss has been a bad sign for this team, this year that won't be the case. This is a different team, a much more confident Purdue team, and we will hang with the Hawks. This has the potential to be one of the best games of the day in the big ten, and could be another shoot out. The big question for Iowa is who will they double, Bryant? Orton? Keller? Lymon? You can't double all of them, the offense limits its mistakes, drops the silly penalties and won't be stopped. The defense improves leading to a Boilermaker win over a ranked team on the road in thrilling fashion.
Nutz- IOWA 57 purdue 2(WTF! You are never guest picking again! haha)

PHATS PREDICTION
PURDUE 35 iowa 28 OT

Hail Hail to old Purdue all Hail to our old gold and black
Hail Hail to old Purdue our friendship may she never lack
Ever grateful ever true thus we raise our song anew FIRE UP!
Of the days we've spent with you all Hail our old Purdue

GO BOILERS!

BTFU

PS changing it up this week and going with Fighting Varsity for the song!

Honey I am home

Did you all miss me? Not that I was really gone just posting from another blog. I hope you all enjoyed that little experiment, and that you will continue to read Steph' blog she is in my links under Steph(duh). She is pretty cool, thanks again Steph it was fun! I loved the music that you added here as well, especially KT!

First off I would like to talk about a very sad and serious subject here, and it's one that Egan and maybe some of you have hit on already. The recent school shooting at an Amish school in PA absolutely made me sick to my stomach. The fact that some man could plan this whole attack out, knowing that communication in an amish community wouldn't be as fast without telephones is just horrible. I can't even imagine what that community is going thru right now, especially seeing as how they want to be kept to themselves most the time anyway, and now they are thrown into the national spotlight. This is becoming a sad trend that every year there seems to be 3 or 4 school shootings like this, when is it going to stop?

I know some of you are tired of sports entry's unfortunately it's that time of the year where sports in my life are HUGE. This entry isn't going to be sports free, I am going to give you a little background of why sports have always played a huge part in my life. It all starts with my father, who in HS was an amazing 3 sport star playing football, basketball, and running track, but his best sport was football. My father up until 1997 still held the records for most passing yards in a season and a game at his alma mater, and in 97 on an undefeated team he was coaching the QB that year broke is record. It's funny because we kid him and tell him not to worry he still holds the interceptions record. My dad also has the distinction of being the first ever North/South all star from his high school, and from there he headed to Ball State where he would be their starting quarterback all 4 years. Immediately out of college he got a job as a teacher and football coach and the rest as they say is history. It should be pointed out that my mother was also a cheerleading coach the first couple years my dad was a coach. So this led to my sister and I attending every single game and he not only coached football, but basketball, and track as well when he first started out. I absolutely LOVED every minute of it, and it's part of the reason why I still enjoy going to high school games this day. So you can see, I have been going to sporting events all my life, it's part of me and it's why I have attached on to sports like I have. It's been great bonding time as well with my parents. Alright that's it for sports in this post I promise!

I guess I could tell you a little bit about myself like some things you might not know. It's weird though because I am a very private person and blogging about personal stuff is kind of odd. I do have a written journal I keep where I write my personal info down in. If you pay me enough I might let you read it. I am not sure what you all want to know really. There are certain things I will not talk about, nor will I give out my real name. Is that weird maybe, do I care not really. I figured for this post I could talk alittle bit about my family and maybe you'll get a better idea of my life? Seriously though if there is something you want to know ask, and if I don't feel it's too personal I will answer it. Also I have added an email address just for blog use, so if you ever would like to contact me you are more then welcome.

I posted once before that I am freakishly close to my parents, and I am not embarrassed to admit that. I see my parents on a regular basis, and enjoy it for the most part. I think part of the reason we are all so close is what we went through. I mean lets face it my dad pretty much saved my life, and if for some reason he couldn't, or for any reason I would have to have the procedure done again my mom is ready to step in. My parents are a very unique couple in that they pretty much have only ever dated each other. They were high school sweethearts, and have been together ever since. There are some funny stories of my dad walking thru a plate glass door after a big fight with my mom. They got into an argument in high school, and she threw his letter jacket on the ground and he took off pissed and walked thru a door when she wouldn't pick it up! I remember one Saturday as well when I was around 7 heading back to a football field where we had played the night before when my dad was coaching to look for his wedding ring. In all his excitement of us scoring the game winning td his ring came off. We did find it! It's odd in these days where divorce rates are so high to have a couple together since the 60's and still going strong.

My sister and I are 5 years apart, and ever since I can remember all I wanted to do was be just like her. That's the reason I got so good at gymnastics was because I had to tag along when she had to take lessons for cheerleading. I think early on it just irritated and annoyed her that wherever she went I wanted to go. When she got her license she had to drive me to school, when she and her friends were at the pool, I got to go too. I was the lovely golden child, especially with health problems! I often felt bad for my sister because I went thru my health crisis when she was going into her Senior year of HS, so she got the raw deal sometimes. My parents missed some stuff of hers because I had appointments, or was readmitted into the hospital. My sister and I are now very close, and pretty much talk daily either via phone or email, and her husband is awesome, and he likes Purdue football haha!! They have 3 kids 3 yr old twins, and a 2 yr old. It's a handful and they do such a great job with them, they are smart as whip. Sorry but design goddess FORCED me to take the picture down, so she ruined the fun for everyone.

Well, that is my immediate family in a nutshell, I hope this helps you all to get to know me a little better. Like I said I was trying to think what to write about and this was hard because I am a private person. Unfortunately for you all it's back to sports on Friday, for the preview of the Boilers next game. Also, I have got the guest picker for this week's game it's going to be... wait and see :)

Hope everyone has a good hump day! This is homecoming week at school and it's CRAZY!

And now for something completely different!

Hi everybody in Phatsland!! Greetings from cold, somewhat rainy Chicago (aka the 11th angriest city in the States).

I'm slightly nervous. I don't have anything to talk about when it comes to sports. Lately I've been giving away $5 to our office pool every week in order for someone much more knowledgeable to win $150 every week. I like to think of it more as a good deed then a gamble. So anyway, I'm no good in the sport section.

But what I do rock at is the music portion! So today, I'm going to focus on that. One problem though. Phats and I don't normally agree on what constitutes as good music.

Consider this problem solved!!!

I have found a couple of songs that have recently been featured in one of his favorite shows of all time, Grey's Anatomy!! You love it, I love it, he loves it, so YAY!

These first two songs come from the last episode of Season Two. We all cried, just admit you did, even if you didn't like the character who died. You were totally wiping snot on your sleeve! First we have Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol. Another Snow Patrol song, Chocolate has been recently used in Zach Braff's Last Kiss Trailer. Which I'm stoked about. Secondly is Side 2 by Dressy Bessy. It's a pretty danceable song, so enjoy shakin' your booty!!

Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars
Dressy Bessy - Side 2

NEXT!

As we all know, Phatty really likes the reality section of our television shows. I've watched a few, I admit it. One of the best is obviously So You Think You Can Dance?!?! But one thing I noticed, and it was also noted by Phats, all these competitive reality shows seem to have a common "farewell song". You know the one. They play it while a slow motion montage of the LOSER is playing in the background. Here are one of the more popular choices:

KT Tunstall - Suddenly I See

Also, that song Bad Day by Daniel Powter seems to get around a lot. Here's a link to the music video. It's got that one chick from the OC in it.

Anyway, that's it!! I hope you like the music. Just in case, right click and click "save as" if you want to download those tracks.

Phats, I hope I did ok by you! And you better enjoy these songs!! Or your totally off my links.

Everyone be nice! :) And don't forget to check out Phat doing his guest blogger thing over at my site.
