Question 4 Shife's
If you missed it awhile back I was in a blogging rut and even though I wasn't posting new content my BFF Shife kept stopping by leaving me comments, which led to me posting a top 10 reasons he's my Blog BFF, which then led to his question for me. My top ten list of Movies, Books, and my favorite Purdue players so lets do this.
Movies- I have actually done this before but I don't remember what I listed so I am going to do this without going back and looking and see if I match up when I am done haha. I would also like to point out I am not a huge movie person, I prefer TV or books.
1- Hoosiers- Best sports movie ever made, still to this day I get goosebumps when I watch it. Partly every kid that grows up in Indiana lives this movie at least in the single class era. You just going beat it, and it was filmed at Historic Hinkle Fieldhouse which is cool
2- Christmas Vacation- I am one of those people that can quote this entire movie and I often do, I will watch this when it's not even Christmas.
3- Silence of the Lambs- I am a sucker for a great scary movie and this one is one of the best, not quite as good as the book but close.
4- Air Force One- I saw this on a date my first summer home from college so maybe that's why I like it so much but I always seem to watch it when it's on.
5- The Simpson Movie- I was skeptical when this came out, I honestly thought they waited too long but it was actually a really solid adaptation of the show.
6- Dodgeball- I love this movie another one that I can quote from beginning to end so good.
7- Halloween(Original)- To me nothing beats the Original Halloween movie with Jamie Lee Curtis, and everytime the music plays when Michael Myers is on the loose I get nervous that music creeps me out
8- Willy Wonka/Charlie and the Chocolate Factory- Again this might be silly to some of you but I seem to always sit and watch when these come on ABC Family which is A LOT.
9- The Goonies- Oh man such a great story, and I still love the Truffle Shuffle!
10- The Birds- Actually this should be higher but I just thought of it hahaha. I love this movie and it made me scared of crows in our backyard for weeks.
OK now books!! This will be hard unlike movies that I don't watch much I read daily.
1- The Long Walk by Stephen King- I love this book I read this book in one day because I couldn't put it down, if you like King and haven't read this you need to. You will either love it or hate, and if you like the Hunger Games this is similar.
2- Anything by Harlan Coben- Yeah this is a cop out but I couldn't name just one he is my favorite author when I get his books I can't stop reading I never want to put them down. I even read his 2 Young Adult books and loved them.
3- Under the Dome by Stephen King- I just finished this recently and going into the book I was skeptical and nervous it was almost 3000 pages for pete's sake. But like the Long Walk I couldn't put it down, my goal with it being so long was 100 pages a night and most nights I read 2x that and finished in 5 days. Another book I highly recommend.
4- Penrod- I have read this book probably 20x if not more. I was assigned this book in a Freshman histroy class at Butler, and I have never been happier. The author is Booth Tarkington from Indiana, and Penrod is a before his time Dennis the Menace. I used to want to name my first kid Penrod.
5- The Hunger Games- LOVED this series, I never would have read it if it hadn't been for my sister, she knew how much I loved Long Walk and told me to try this. Finished all 3 in 1 day, simply because I had to know what was going to happen. Really looking forward to the Catching Fire movie. Cross Series by James Patterson. OK don't get me wrong there are some clunkers in this series(Cross Country, Trial) but most of the Cross series are really good.
6- Cross Series by James Patterson. OK don't get me wrong there are some clunkers in this series(Cross Country, Trial) but most of the Cross series are really good.
7- Lisa Gardner- I have really gotten into all her books, so I can't really just pick one I know I am kind of taking the easy way out on this ?
8- To Kill a Mockingbird- I was going to leave classics off here, but I love this book and I am shocked when someone tells me they haven't never read it. The group I play tennis with the three of them have never read this. SHOULD be required reading.
9- Women's Murder Club Series by James Patterson- Another series that has been really good, they tried a tv show but it didn't make it.
10- Where the Red Fern Grows- Yes, this is a kid book I remember being embarrassed in school trying to hide my tears when the dogs die in this classic. Love this book.
Top 10 Purdue Players(this is hard)
1- Drew Brees- number 1 was EASY this man is basically a God in West Lafayette, he has a street named after him on campus, he has his own pizza at Bruno's(ever at Purdue make sure you eat there!) Why, because he took us back to the Rose Bowl for the first time since the 60's, and continues years later to give back to Purdue. He still reps Purdue while playing for the New Orleans Saints. It's really hard to put into words what he means to Purdue but he has a cult like following there. Take this into account in Indiana most are diehard Colts fans, who were torn when the Saints and Colts played in the super bowl.
2-Glen Robinson- BIG DOG!! Only stayed at Purdue 2 years before turning pro and going #1 in the NBA draft, but he almost led Keady to a final four in 94. I will never forget him dunking over Greg Ostertag of Kansas in the sweet 16. Unfortunately late in the game vs KU he aggrevated an injury(not dunking ha) and wasn't 100% and the Boilers fell to Duke in the Elite 8. It was weird this year seeing him at Mackey watching his son play(plays for Michgian)
3- Gene Keady- OK he's a coach but I am including him. Basketball is king in this state, and he elevated Purdue to national power even more during his years. Mackey Arena's court is named after him, he is famous for his comb over, but he will long be remembered by Boiler fans as going out with a winning record vs Bob Knight. When those two were there the Purdue/iu rivalry was CRAZY good.
4- John Wooden- Most lists he'd be #1 and I probably should have him higher, but here he is :) Played for the Boilers and I think we know the rest of the story when his playing days were done.
5- Brian Cardinal- He might be the definition of a Boilermaker hard worker, never looked like a real basketball player, then ended up beating you. Almost carried Gene Keady to his first final four, and ended up getting a world title with the Mavericks.
6- Robbie Hummel- Might be my all time favorite Boiler after Drew Brees. Such a story Boilers are on their way to an amazing season top 3 in the country easily a number 1 seed and winning at Minnesota when he cut and went down. Torn ACL, rehabs comes back first day of practice of what would be his Senior year re tears his ACL, gets a redshirt year comes back plays one of the best games of his career vs #1 Kansas in the second rd of the NCAA tournament only see KU come from behind lead only 1 min and beat us. Only senior night I have ever cried at was his. What makes him more special he is just as great off the court.
7- Bob Griese- Purdue is known as the cradle of quarterbacks and he might be the first, led the Boilers to their only rose bowl win in the 60s. Neat to see him come back and call games as well
8- Katie Douglas- I know most people that read this blog don't recognize women's basketball as a sport but it's HUGE at Purdue. Katie was instrumental in the 99 National Championship team, and then was a horrible call away from winning it all again in 01, all while losing BOTH her parents during college. Plays with the Fever now won a title with them too, everywhere she goes she wins
9- Steph White & Ukari Figgs- Led the Boiler women to the 99 National title, an interesting story. After a minor coaching scandal Linn Dunn was fired pretty much every one bolted including two that headed to Duke, Steph and Ukari chose to stay and it paid off. Here comes the irony in the title game they played Duke and the 2 women who chose to leave! I lumped these two together because they meant so much to the program and the fact that they stayed and they were both blue chip recruits was HUGE
10- Roosevelt Colvin- Purdue became known as the Den of Defensive Backs during Tiller's early years and Colvin led the way. He was instrumental in the 98 Alamo Bowl win when we upset #4 K-State. Went on to have a career with the Pats, and now on BTN basically pimping out the Boilers which is great to have someone speaking up for us!.
HM(just too many not to mention)
Etwaun Moore, Mike Alstott, Ryan Kerrigan, Joy Holmes, Rick Mount, Rod Woodson, Joe Tiller(another coach!), Leroy Keyes, Joe Barry Carroll, David Boudia
There ya go, that was hard because I kept thinking of people those might not be everyone's top ten but those are some of my favorites :)

I love it, and you have gone above and beyond because you only had to pick one subject to do a top 10 list. This is why we are blogging BFF. I like all of your movies, unfortunately I know little about your books because I usually watch stuff instead of reading it, and the Purdue list is solid gold. I had no idea that Bob Griese played at Purdue, and Brian Cardinal was one of my favorite players too. The dude got after it. Thanks Phats for obliging me and have yourself a wonderful weekend, buddy.
It also shocks me when someone says they haven't read To Kill A Mockingbird...and really throws me when they say they haven't seen the movie! Gregory Peck and Brock Peters are/were some of my favorite actors! I especially liked Brock Peters later in the "old generation" Star Trek movies! So good to read your interests Phats!
Ahhhh Where the Red Fern Grows - that one made me cry too!!!!
And of the movies, Air Force One is my fave. Bet you're surprised I've even seen it!
We love the same movies, but I knew that already.
To Kill a Mockingbird is my all time fave!
Hey buddy!!
