Congrats to the Duke Blue Devils for winning the National title. I am not a fan I think the media overhypes them but apparently this year it was warranted. I was also surprised to see so many ACC fans cheer for them because from what I gather most hate them. Right Shife? :) Butler had an amazing run and even though Hayward's shot missed(I witnessed him hit one just like that to win the state title his Senior year) I think they will see gains of this run in the long run when all the hype has died down. I also though feel like they are really set up for an epic size fail next year. Don't get me wrong they are going to be very good again, and lets be honest nobody will beat them in the Horizon League, but the expectations might kill them. And to hear their coach talk about how he wants to beef up a non conference schedule if they get the teams he wants they could very well be sub 500 going into league play. They had a great run, but I don't see them as more than a sweet 16 team next year. In all sports you not only have to be a GREAT team but you have to get some luck as well to go far, and Butler benefited in the luck department big time.
As for the Boilers while the ending was bittersweet and not suppose to happen in the sweet 16 I have sat back and realized just what an amazing run the 09-10 Boilers took us on. We won our first 14 games with wins over Tennessee(Elite 8 team) in the Paradise Jam, West Virginia(Final Four Team) at home in convincing fashion, and a good young Alabama team on a night when the place was so hype after their kid winning the hesiman. Then everyone was scratching their heads when we went on a three game skid to start Big Ten play leaving everyone to wonder just how good are we, and the answers came. It started with a road win over Illinois where an unlikely hero stepped up, and ended with our first game without Hummel against Michigan State. Argue with me if you want but in that ten game stretch before Robbie's injury I truly don't believe any team in the country was playing better. We clobbered Michigan State AT State, beat Ohio State in a classic in Columbus, and got a nice home win over a desperate Illinois team, and then it happened. With 7 mins plus to play in Minnesota we were up 24-12 Robbie had 12 of our 24 pts he went down and the rest was history. This team did great to regroup and win the Big Ten Title still, go to the sweet 16 after everyone counted us out in every round and we only lose 2 players Keaton Grant, and Chris Kramer. Those two will be missed KG seemed to find his shooting touch in the tournament and brought us roaring back against Siena, and what's to say about Kramer. When someone asks what a Boilermaker is I point to him because that is what he is. There is NOBODY in the country on a basketball court tougher than CK. To see him hit the game winning shot to send us to the sweet 16 almost made me cry, and I did cry to see him in tears after losing to Duke. Yes, life is unfair the winningest Senior class in Purdue history should have had a chance to go out full strength but it just wasn't meant to be. A small tidbit going into the season our starting 5 was set, we never once started that 5. In the preseason our PG Lew Jack broke his foot when he got healthy, Hummel went down. Next year 4 starters return, assuming JJ comes back he's talked about the pros but most don't have him first rd my guess is he'll come back and take care of some unfinished business with Smooge and Hummel. Proud to be a Boiler! Now, how many months til College Football??? BTW Cheryl Bama is my WAYYY too early pick to win it all.
Spring break is officially over, and I didn't really do anything exciting but REST! It was nice to not have anything to do for a change, I chose not to get on here and blog or read blogs but I plan on catching up with you all here soon. Now that school starts back up so does tennis, and my life is officially hectic. Our first match is Tuesday vs our arch rival, and probably whoever wins is going to win our conference. I am worried because this team has NOT been on break so they have been practicing, and I don't even have a line up set YIKES. Think good thoughts Tuesday please.
Kristen and I are really excited for the return of Glee on Fox that has become our show we never miss. If you're not watching it you really should it's really good and great music. It returns for the back 9 on Fox Tuesday at 9:28 after Idol. Can't wait!
That is all I got for tonight, My next post will be completely sports free. Have a great week
