Last college football post until August, how sad
Well, the bowl season has come and gone and now Phats is sad because college football season is over, good thing college basketball season is in full swing, GO BOILERS!! I decided to dedicate this entry to a look back at the bowl season, and to apologize for being one shitty blogger lately, but I promise I will make the rounds to your blogs sometime this week. On to the post.
My Top Ten Observations from the Bowl Season.
1. Congrats to LSU, they won the national title and pretty much nobody thinks they are the #1 team. I believe Georgia, and Southern Cal would both beat the Tigers. However, I still don't want a playoff.
2. Who in the hell decided to play Bowl games in cold cities? Toronto, Detroit, and Boise? WTF?! Bowls are suppose to be rewards, and playing cities that as cold as where you come from is not a reward. How about some more bowl games in Florida, California, or Texas.
3. Why in the hell is there a bowl game played in Toronto? I mean I know Canada wants to be America, but come on. No college football teams should have to have a passport to play their bowl game.
4. Why are there two "nobody cares" games played on the 5th and 6th of January? The International Bowl, and the GMAC Bowl were both played on these dates. What happened to the old days where all games were over with by Jan 2nd at the latest? I am all for the Title game being played a little later but no other bowls should pass Jan 1.
5. So much for Hawaii. I believe yours truly called this one. They were embarrassed by the Georgia Bulldogs in a game that was no where near as close as the score. So, can we finally stop talking how the WAC and MWC deserve some kind of BCS Tie In. Sorry Duck, but trick plays and playing the game of their lives won Boise their game last year(and I am now a BSU fan!) Also think Oklahoma will start turning down invites to the Fiesta Bowl?
6. How in the world did the Gator Bowl end up with Virginia and Texas Tech? And how in the world did UVA lose that game? Jef, Fuzz where were the Tech Fans?? That was a HORRIBLE crowd.
7. Some of the best games were the early ones with BYU defeating UCLA on a blocked field goal, ECU beating Boise(Sorry Duck) on a last second field goal, and of course my Boilers winning on a last second field goal.
8. I am a little tired of the SEC fans puffing their chests year after year. When you look at the bowls they go to, they are basically playing home games. I mean Tampa, Orlando, a few in Louisiana, Atlanta. Come on like that is fair lets start shipping some of their teams to the bowls out west and see how they do. The one funny thing is though the Big Ten teams tend to outdraw the SEC teams with fans. At least we did when we played Georgia in Tampa and Orlando.
9. Think Kansas was a little tired of hearing they didn't belong in a BCS Bowl, and I admit I was one of those people saying that. Congrats to the Jayhawks who proved Rock Chalk just isn't a basketball school. Illinois and Hawaii neither of them belonged in a BCS game. It's time the Rose Bowl either agree to buck tradition or get out of the BCS all together.
10a. Purdue actually won a bowl game!! Sure it was over a MAC school, but we still won. It was a nice feeling, our QB passed for the 4th most yards in bowl history, and our kicker who spent last year in the doghouse(they subbed for him last year for an 18 yard game winning field goal) kick the 40 yard game winner.
10b. Even after finally getting a bowl win Joe Tiller, our head coach could be on his way out. The Purdue message boards have been HOT after an article ran in the Lafayette paper saying that our AD has pretty much hired Wisconsin Offensive Coordinator Paul Chryst to replace Tiller. Of course the AD denied this, but what else can he do? It was also reported in a Wisconsin newspaper that Purdue did infact ask permission to talk to Chryst. In my opinion this is a huge mistake, and the fact they have left Tiller in the dark is a bigger one. He saved this program and deserves better. I just hope if this happens we don't regret it.
